I know there's a thread already on this, but thought it would be nice to have one for reviews;
The show was off the hook!! The arena was lovely, the vibe of the crowd was great, with a comforting scent of hash lingering in the air on the significant day.
First Up: Oakenfold; his beat matching was HORRENDOUSLY off, esp. in the beginning, but he made up for it by playing the original mix of Southern Sun, Tiesto's "Obsession", played some oldies among which ferry's mix of barber's adagio for strings. Oakie looked absolutely WRECKED-- he kept streching his arms out in this cheesy manner and looked like some sort of prophet. Was very amusing!
Chemical Brothers: What a pleasant surprise! I hadn't expected to enjoy them as much as I did, but when then choons brought me back to the old days, with Block Rockin Beats, ***Who's Under the Influence***, Out of Conrol, Afrika, Hey Boy Hey Girl, Music Response. Sunshine Underground....etc. Their mixing was absolutely stellar! And the light show/graphics were wicked as well. THe best part of the night!
Sasha & Digweed: Didn't know a single track, but they were sound nonetheless, really interracting with the crowd. Sweet graphics once again.

It was a pain in the arse to have to run back and forth, since they had two stages at both ends of the arena, with oakie and chem bros at having spun at one end, and sasha and diggers and some other prog dj at the other.
THe crowd was well up for it, and there was just a good vibe all around. I met loads of wonderful people. Saw loads of people stuck with seat tickets who weren't having it and just jumped the sides to get on the floor. Great facility, nice clean bathrooms, and mint music!! What more is needed..
THe best event I've been to in Chicago by far!
AFTERHOURS: Also stellar, went to RedNoFive, almost legged it when they were looking all dodgy at my ID, but it all worked fine (pays to be a young lady!!) Heard more banging prog from resident dj's Chris Walsh, and John Curley... came home still yearning for more!

| Yeah, I was there last night myself, and all in all I thought it was a pretty good show. I didn't like the fact that Oakenfold came on so damn early, because I arrived when he was already on. It was also odd how the stage thingy worked, because when I walked in to Oakenfold, I was in the way back of the dance floor, but then he finished, lights went on behind me, and some dude started spinning on the other stage, and suddenly I was in the front row...but he stopped soon, the lights went on at the other stage, and the Chemical Brothers came on, and once again I was in the way back! But things worked out because I was in the first row when Sasha and Digger came on at midnight. Security inside was pretty lenient, more so than I expected, but this was my first event in Chicago, so I really didn't have a good grasp on what could happen. |

wow what an awesome show! i got in late too cause of the long ass lines :( but, i got in to see oakenfold for like 30 min, but i thought he sucked. Chem. Bros. and S&D did way better though. I thought the Chem. Bros. would suck, but they put on a bangin show....but i thought they didn't keep the pace going very well. they seemed to break up a lot of the cool parts with chiller beats. but, thats probably cause they were resting or changing the settings on their synths. but, overall it was a good show....it coulda gone on longer tho....
oh yea, does anyone know if the sasha and digweed portion was recorded and if so where i could get a copy...that'd be great :) :) |

Ahhh the Triple Crown...once in a lifetime event.
Well I sincerely hope something like this isnt the last time it comes to the Chicago area. I was impressed by it all considering this is my first time seeing such big name acts in the electronica genre!
Like some other people in this forum I didnt get inside till around the last 20 min of Oakenfold's set. When I first walked in I was blown away by the sea of bodies and swaying arms down on the dance floor. Im SO glad I got dance floor tickets instead of stands. For the most part the energy was there. The Chemical Brothers rocked the proverbial house. I told someone next to me, "just when you think they can't get any louder they did!!" I have never listened to them in depth before, but man if you like a fusion of breakbeats, straight 4, house/trancey feel that was it.
What I really wanted to see was Sasha and Digweed. In keeping with their "Delta Heavy" tour scheme the beats were dark and punishing. Even though I found out online that they didnt use the famed Phazon sound system, I still like the quality as well as the "interactive" light/laser show. Some people online have said they were disappointed by S+D saying they were boring. I was like...do you have any feeling in your soul? That f*cking music rocked me thats for sure. :D :whip:
Overall I had a great time..and I wasnt even drunk. :toothless |

| There is a MP3 of the Delta Heavy tour stop in Miami under Essential Mix for Sasha and Digweed's performance on 4/7/02. I downloaded it last night...its GREAT! :D |

uhhh.... oakenfold did not have any problems mixing, he is one of the most respected DJs, and a true professional DJ with years of experience. What you may have perceived as a train wreck was probably the sound bouncing off the other end of the arena. I am sure that if you were right next to him listening to his mix from the monitor speakers, you would hear that his set was nice and tight. His selection of tracks was far superior than that of Sasha/Digweed...their music was un-eventful and boring. Oakenfold did a stand up job, and always does.
Remember-- you were in an arena made for sporting events... It's not a concert hall meant to be acoustically pleasing at 135 beats per minute.
and yes-- the lasers were awesome... first time I have seen them roll out the professional lighting effects in the windy city. |

Fromw what I heard most of the Miami set is the same as the Chicago set. The order is switched here and there. But in Chicago these were defintely played:
