Listen

I’ve selected six up-and-coming, or unsigned tunes for your streaming pleasure.

These are a brilliant cross-section of what you can expect in clubs and beach bars across the next few months.

First up, Soul Avengers “One Love”, featuring Katherine Ellis. I’ve been on this for ages, but Wayne and Paul of Soul Avengers are waiting for the right deal to come up before signing it to a label for the UK. This perky, bouncy number works everywhere I play it!

Next you’ll be hearing the electro bleeps and beeps of Mark Storie’s “Cameron”. Mark’s a recent signing to Mark Knight’s amazing Toolroom records.

Out of Mark Storie, and into “Dirtynastysexmusic” from Danny Dove, excellent DJ and partner in crime of KISS’ Steve Smart. I love the saucy, posh, whispery vocal on this one.

Jack Rokka‘s “Take Off” has been around for a while, but now we get the addition of some vocals from Alison Clarkson, AKA BETTY BOO!! Yes! It’s her!! And it’s FILTHY!

Chicago progressive House maestro Ben Brown mixes in next, with “Love & Solace”. This is the remix from fellow Chicagoans Nosmo & Kris B . I love it when a prog tune can also use some high-end notes to create a relaxed, summer vibe like this.

And finishing up, I’ve got DJ Kuffar “I saw Your Smile” (Soul Conspiracy remix). This tune just screams of summer, with that slightly-delayed, slightly off-key vocal style that reminds me a bit of things like “At the River” by Groove Armada.

Enjoy!!!

Ben Brown - Love and Solace
Audio Logic Recordings (Released: September 2007)

- 7.5/10
User rating: 9.5/10 of 2 ratings

Audio Logic recordings is a label based out of CHICAGO what some may consider the birth of what we know call HOUSE MUSIC.They start things off proper with what looks like to be a solid release form rising star BEN BROWN known as LOVE AND SOLACE which includes 3 separate mixes from some nice talent as well.

The original mix starts off with a nice techy beat and some slick vocal style efx and leads quickly to a building atmosphere that sets the mood for this track form the start. The bass line is acidic in nature lending it that toughness and gritty feel to counter balance the atmosphere from the rising melody in the background. This is one of those tracks that will fit well in an early evening set or for those late night romps on the beach when the sun is coming up.

For Audio Logic Recordings fist release they pulled out all the stops with this one. The artist who where lucky enough to remix this are ones to watch out for in the future as well as Ben Brown & Audio Logic Recordings.

The 16 Bit Lolitas mix starts of with a dark edgey atmosphere making is perfect for for peak hour or deep in the night with the well sequenced intro. 16 Bit Lolitasshow their talent for sure with the way they can work the synths and productions technique in this remix. The melody and use of synths is more upfront and in your face unlike the original. With the flanging and filtering on the synths in this track it adds a sense of mobility to the track to keep the arrangement fresh.

The Topher Jones Remix starts things off with a nice FM sounding stab and solid beat that works it way into a twistedly dark texture atmosphere. Then a pause some in and slams in a deep pounding bass line groove that builds back to the atmosphere it had. The way this track is sequenced out it keeps things fresh and moving so as to not sound to linear in nature. The atmosphere of the breakdown brings in a secondary bass line that really makes this track rock out very well with the sound efx and filtering and snare work. This mix is very melodic and progressive by nature and this rmx will do well @ peak hour sets for a progressive night out as well as those nights when u just want to trance out also.

Overall while not this reviewers personal cup of tea very solidly produced track that is sure to work well.

The Jeff Davis better In the Beginning Rmx starts off wit a decidedly tough well placed kick and vocal sample. The atmosphere filters it way into an explosion of a bass line that takes the listener on a ride of life time. This mix is melodic as well but holds the listeners interest with the well laid out layers and production techniques. About a 3rd of the way through the track a twistedly dark atmosphere pops in and that vocal sample comes back in. The break down fits well and keeps the intrest going as well. This mix is definitely worth picking up you won't be let down by it.

The Nosmo V Kris B rmx starts off with a solid kick and percussion hythm that is very tight and tough and techy there is also some great vocal stab work to pepper it in, a lot like a dub mix if you will. There is some great stab work a piano bits once the track gets going. This mix will do well in a lot sets as it has crossover appeal for people looking for a solid progressive track but who also like the tech house as well. This is what house music should be something that can bridge gaps and not be defined by one genre.

The best thing about this release so far has been the response to Topher's mix. At a time when trance music seems to be panned so frequently, it's a far more impressive accomplishment (in my eyes) for Topher to have genuinely made something that even the house and tech heads can appreciate.

Congrats man - you really did a great job. :)

Thanks man! This is the first of loads of remixes that I have coming out in the upcoming months. I'm glad that people who may not be all the into Trance enjoy this. I just cant wait until this whole release actually comes out to see how great it will do...:)
