July 14th Interchange-Toronto Presents DETROIT TECHNO MILITIA
ninaflower

Join us on Saturday July 14th for the 2nd edition of Interchange in Toronto.
Featuring guests from Detroit Techno Militia http://www.detroittechnomilitia.com/

Fresh off his performance from Movement Festival this year, DJ Seoul will be laying down a set along with the relentless T. Linder.

A veteran DJ with more than ten years of experience under his belt; Detroit native, T.Linder has done his homework and paid his dues.

T.Linder takes a no-nonsense, working-class approach to the art of spinning records. He cites old-school Detroit street jocks: The Wizard (aka. Jeff Mills), Gary Chandler, and Steve "DJ Energy" Crawford among others, as major inspirations for his unorthodox aesthetic. "If someone's going to pay money to hear me spin, I'm going to make it worth their money. The way I look at it, there's too many DJs out there meticulously and methodically blending records that all sound the same. As a listener, I'm easily bored with that. I like to take some risks when I perform, skipping across genres and eras, doing scratch tricks with two copies of the same record. I want to give the listener the experience of hearing something they haven't heard before."

As owner and co-founder of Bang Tech 12, DJ Seoul has been tearing up the Detroit Techno scene for 11years. Playing a wide assortment of music, from electro to hip hop to rare groove to house to minimal, DJ Seoul is known for bringing a turntablist hip hop style of mixing to his set no matter what genre he is playing.
Bang Tech 12 which was responsible for some of the best events in Detroit in the mid to late nineties. Some of the events include Vertigo, Sounds of Futures Past, and Rampage just to name a few. Now Bang Tech 12 is purely concerned with just producing music and small events for Detroit. The days of the big party events are over in Detroit. Now the focus is on small invite only underground events and doing the larger events at legal venues located in the greater Metropolitan Detroit area. As a producer, DJ Seoul has a few different monikers. One of these is " Funk Shui" which is stripped down electro that has an old school feel to it designed for breakers and turntables. http://www.detroittechnomilitia.com...,37/Itemid,230/

TESTE was the original alias for techno producer Himadri of Richie Hawtin's plus eight records. In 1991 during the time of Chemistry and Nitrous raves in Toronto a partnership was made between David Foster (now drummer for junior boys and then drummer for Eden Mandate, a Toronto group which sounded like Echo and the Bunnymen or The Chameleons. The two began an industrial group called Kanal and then AVM, which opened for many industrial shows such as DHI, bang elektroniq and digital poodle. Himadri left his 1987 hiphop act after opening for public enemy to promote 1987 AVM's demo in London UK where he also handed out tapes of TESTE, the loopy distorted experimental tape of beats made on a tr909 with a tb303 and other analog synths.
Himadri with over 30 records later being featured on more than 20 compilations and mixed cds for renown international djs. The two went on to play huge raves. David Foster left TESTE after Regions where he performed vocals which triggered a moog liberty and korg mini. Spatial K and Praecox were part of the original tapes circulated in 1988 and were mastered from tape to vinyl. Himadri has begun to tour as Teste after a 9 year hiatus and refuses to use laptops in a show of gear and hardware. -JM Free Press
