Obviously 'live' drummers cant hit their hi hats and cymbals whilst simultaneously hitting snares etc - but when we create loops the hats play all the time (does that make sense?)

I was wondering if any tracks are actually created that sound like they use 'real' drummers?

I dont suppose it matters but I just wondered thats all!

erm, a drummer can hit a cymbal and a snare at the same time. u have to remember drummers, like the rest of us humans, have two arms and two legs.

I think most of The Chemical Brothers - Surrender album was done with live drums, chopped up and processed.

I have 3 arms.

But I think that drummers are completely capable of playing a lot of the drum loops that we create.

Yeah, lots of drummers played the 16th hihat lines we make in the disco days, I think that's where it started. They then had another hand to hit the snare and a foot on the kick. Since thats the main drums we use in trance I think they should be alright. Also, they can vary the sound of the hihat with their foot. If you start throwing in tambourines or whatever, then that stuff isnt usually done by the drummer in real life, its done by extra people, often singers etc.

MOST edm loops won't be reproducible by a single human... Obviously techno is impossible, and trance typically uses 2+ hat/shaker loops which is also impossible. Electro and breaks are probably the only genres which could often be achieved by a live drumer. If you listen to stuff from Sneaky Soundsystem or Grant Smilie, most of it has been done with the aim of sounding live.

Have you seen the drum set that the drummer from Dream Theatre uses?

The sounds that this guy puts out put even the most percussive EDM to shame.

The number of drums is irrelevant... he still only has two arms and two legs. all he's done is added a double kick. :p
