Showed up late, set up my stuff, found was missing an adaptor, etc etc by the time I got things going the next act showed up. Ah well, another day another time on that front.
House stage was empty until like 10 or 11, and by then like 10 people til Glaude and Jelo started, then 20. Things picked up as soon as Snoop finished, everyone left that stage and came over to the trance and house or left.
I was checking out all the stages all night, wandering around, some people were absolutely ripping it up, and some were laughable. Czech was killing it on the main stage near the end of my stay. Steve Helstrip ripped it up, played some older stuff or new mixes of like 2006 early 2007 stuff and a few off his night music cd, the terry ferminal or breakfast remix of night music, threw out t-shirts during the breakdowns! Lots of energy but yeah you could tell he was a bit disappointed that there weren't more than 50-100 people at any point in time. George played a good set, I haven't listened to him before so I didn't know what to expect. Tristan was the one playing the 'psy' set, was reminiscent of astral and such, was wicked I thought. Jimmy was full of energy, tried to get the crowd into it, but there just wasn't much of a crowd. Marty of course exaggerates, was nice seeing him sober for once, but as usual a busy guy and I had to tap him to get a hello out of him. Snoop Dogg was great, considering I don't really listen to hip hop. I actually thought Mat the Alien was kind of cool.
Big props to Kristine and Josh for this event and for a big thank you for the opportunity to come and play! Next year I'll leave 2 hours earlier than what I had planned (leave at 3pm to get there for 5pm apparently doesn't work, lol).
One note for next year is to find a way to process the line better. I had a chance when a few trance DJs didn't show to play some progressive house, and my buddy called asking if I could let him in. I had him wait in the vip line (like 20 people in it at the time?) and I missed my chance to jump on the trance stage waiting 20 mins there for him to move 1 space. I was lucky I got there early, a lot of people were waiting quite a while in that line when it got closer to the Snoop show.
It never rained hard, but the rain was off an on. It didn't spoil anything for anyone. The stages might have been a bit small and the venue wrong in a way (not enough house/trance addicts showed up to support glaude/acosta/thrillseekers) but I thought the trance stage was nice all things considered. All the stages had a tonne of speakers and bassbins, and the trance stage had lasers and lights set up, as well as a light show. |

Wow, props to Snoop Dogg! That man really knows how to get the crowd going. I stuck around afterwards for a bit, and noticed there were no more than perhaps 50-70 people at the trance stage( with the thrillseekers on as well!). The majority left after snoop.
The stages were pretty tiny for the talent they held, but most of the people didn't really mind, me included.
Overall quite a good show! |
