I think it's about time that a production studio sub forum for newbies was made. There has been constant e-arguing in there for years, mostly the result of people getting pissed off reading the same nooblet questions over and over. It may be a good idea to lock anyone out of the main production forum untill they have 5 or 10 posts, or (this will be an unpopular idea) untill they get promoted from the newbie forum by a mod. Redcafe.net has a promotion system to cut down on spam and crap in their main forums and it works.. sort of. But then they have lots of mods and let experienced posters suggest newbies who are worthy of promotion.
That way, all such threads could easily be avoided and anyone who doesn't mind helping those new to production can do so without someone derailing the thread with insults and flamewars. I imagine it would also promote more serious discussion on synthesis, techniques etc in the main forum. And lastly, probably more of the really good posters will stick around. There have been many over the years who don't post any more, possibly because >50% of the forum is full of useless crap. |
