Be happy that some of those clubs are in areas inhabited by such sketchy characters -- this way it deflects from the clientele and the club owners. I'm not saying it doesn't suck that some guy wants $5 or $10 to 'look after your car' and you fork it over to save yourself a dent, but, be careful what you wish for.
Alternatively, you can have Toronto's problem -- 80+ clubs in a small area and ppl who moved into condos in the past 7 years upset at the activity on weekends, getting pissed off, and turning around trying to make life difficult for club owners/patrons. The city even bought an old club and is turning it into a ing homeless shelter - unreal. |

- 100 clubs in a 5-block square radius?
- parking lots charging 40 beans to park when big djs are spinning?
- sketchbags wandering the streets?
- venal club staff and usurious prices?
- every vip lounge pumping bob sinclar?
danny must have downtown miami confused with chelsea...
it's the same different address (it's always been the case that danny gets the heebie-jeebies when he leaves the confines of nyc). like neil said, disrespecting deep dish, bob sinclar, swedish house crew, et al. is tacky at best...
[although, if we're being honest, in the last 5 years south beach has become far too trick daddy- and rick ross-ized.] |

i understand that this isnt just a problem in miami, but when places like new york, toronto, san fran, even dallas, and denver (WTF?!) bring in different names several times every month i dont mind dealing with the problem. but when space doesnt bring in anybody anymore, thats when i get pissed. i know they dont have to, but im not going to a club to hear that oscar g bull every saturday night.
who are they bringing this summer? pvd is confirmed and sander probably will play too, roger sanchez was last week or the week before i dunno. but lets compare to 2 summers ago... james zabiela, nic fanciulli, ferry corsten, pvd, sander (when he was playing every 2 months). you compare the talent they brought before and the talent they bring now (or lack there of) and space isnt the same anymore.
space doesnt care anymore. they know they can make the same amount of money having oscar g playing or having one of the worlds best come and play. space. they are done in downtown anyway. i give it to the end of the year or maybe next wmc before they shut down and have to move cuz of all the condos coming in.
maybe only the people in miami will get this, but do you have ANY idea how ing sad it is to live in MIAMI and not even have any worthwhile shows to go to? and i blame all the rich people who dont need good music to have a good time... THAT. for me its all about the music. not like these models who will take a whack of coke out of some rich guys if he really asked them to.
as much as i dont agree with the way danny said his piece; throwing djs under the bus like that, i still gotta agree with him. |
