It was an astonishing news to all our fellow Portuguese Trance lovers in late May. In just a month, we'd have a night, at an amazing place, with nothing more, nothing less that Tiësto himself. That day would be the 15th of June of 2007.

First, one has to say that this, is not that usual in Portugal. We, certainly, have Electronic Dance Music events in here, but they're all dominated by House (in it's Electro and Tribal genres), and by the underground PsyTrance. To get you a picture of what's living in this country, Trance is generally considered by many as PsyTrance (and only PsyTrance), and for the other ones as a big pile of cheese. We are the most underground in the underground. So, in this Tiësto visit we saw a light at the end of the tunnel that could change the way that people, ignorantly, view the Uplifting/Melodic Trance. I'm definitely sure that many who attended to Tiësto's night still thought that they were listening to some Techno, or even house, as our ignorant media did after the show.

The night came on exactly at the time that we, the portuguese trance community entered in the area, which was Ribeira do Porto in Porto, a magnificent and beautiful place, although small, side by side with the Douro river, that in that town reaches the sea.
One thing that all of us noticed at that time was the sound quality. We admit, we weren't expecting technical quality for a completely free event, but in fact, the sound was great. Praça do Cubo, the area were most of the people would be sometime later, was , was already with some, but not many people. Few were already bouncing at the sounds that dominated the whole night (besides in Tiësto's set): Tribal House.

But the beautifulness of the place came along with the night, the D.Luís bridge at the left, the stage at the center and, behind all that, the greatness of Douro, with the Gaia side fully illuminated at the other margin.

Till the midnight, the hour in which Tiësto would appear, the show was nothing more that a regular House Event (like the one Creamfields Lisboa turned into, and it sucked by the way). The sets of DJ Emannuel and DJ Gonzo were certainly amazing for those who love Tribal House, but for the Trance night that our small group was expecting, was nothing more that meaningless sound waves.

But he came, Tiësto, and besides all our fears that he could possibly play an House set, he reward us with a fully Elements of Life set, full of his productions, and at last, Trance.

As the elements came along (Fire, Water, Earth and Air), his major productions were being spinned and all the audience was dancing. It is difficult to describe the sensation of finally, feeling Trance in the air, and notice that everyone, even the ones who claimed that that kind of dance music was garbage, were dancing.

There is not (yet) a full tracklist of the show, but he goes something like this (nor ordered)

Tiesto - Ten seconds before sunrise
Tiesto Feat. Maxi Jazz - Dance4life
Tiesto Feat. Christian Burns - In The Dark
Tiesto - Bright Morningstar
Tiesto Feat. Bt - Break My Fall
Tiesto - Elements Of Life
Tiesto - Hes a Pirate (Tiesto Remix)
Tiesto - Lethal Industry 2007 (Richard Durand Remix)
Tiesto - Adagio For Strings
Tiesto - Love Comes Again
Tiesto - Flight 643 (Richard Durand remix)
Tiesto - Traffic
Tiesto - Just Be
Tiesto - Carpe Noctum (Original Mix)
First State Feat. Anita Kelsey - Falling
Meck Feat. Dino Lenny - Feels Like Home (Marco V Remix)
Prodigy - Smack My Bitch up (Richard Durrant remix)
Yves Deruyter - Feel Free (2007 Remake)
Vincent de Moor - Fly Away (Cosmic Gate Remix)
Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes (Allende Remix)
Artic Quest - Strings & Guitars
Delerium ft Sarah MacLachan - Silence
Mike Koglin vs. Energy Dai - Reloaded
Nenes & Pascal Feliz - Platinum (Tech Mix)
Red Carpet – Alright (Tiësto In Sweet Harmony Everything Is Gonna Be Alright Bootleg)
The Killers – Read My Mind (Gabriel & Dresden Unplugged Mix)
Wamdue Project - King of my castle (sander van doorn remix)
Joop - The Future

Tiësto came, the public enjoyed, Tiësto left, and at the final, not a single person was shut up, all of them calling for him. Amazing, amazing night.

It was 3 AM in the morning, and the night was only supposed to end at 06 AM, so another dj set was coming, this time by DJ Peter G. But, as we would expect, more Tribal House was coming with it, so our attention for the stage has dispersed.

In a nutshell, it was the best Tiësto set in portuguese lands ever (previously he came here only two other times), it certainly opened the mind to a lot of people, but we, portuguese trance community, have still a lot of work to do to make this a better trance friendly country, and create the conditions to bring other top DJs here.

Let's go to work.
