pan-pot was born in 2003. their music has obvious overlaps with berlin's omnipresent minimal techno, but they remain deeply rooted in earlier electronic music movements from berlin and beyond, reaching back to chicago house. across the trio's EPs for mobilee and einmaleins musik and remixes for labels like sender and ware, tweakily inventive sound design meets time-tested, dancefloor-proof drum programming.
one is considered the loneliest number - unless you're talking about exercise one, the berlin duo of marco freivogel and ingo gansera. while many computer-oriented artists vainly attempt to recreate studio productions in a live context, exercise one work the other way around, jamming and improvising for hours on end, then editing their results into tight, focused tracks that never lose their sense of spontaneity. informed by minimal, their music nonetheless refuses to hold back, switching up downbeats and rolling out melodies like lopsided marbles._
a pinch of greece comes with gummihz aka alexander tsotsos. his time behind turntables in clubs and warehouses in london (where he studied music) deepened his love for electronic music, particularly new york deep house, and nudged him towards music-making._ so he began composing in 2001 and in 2006 he was signed by anja schneider's mobilee label for his vinyl debut, the select and bounce EP. delicate and banging, gummihz's unmistakable sound perfectly encapsulates mobilee's mandate for a new vision of minimal music - intricate and intelligent but made for body-moving. damn right._ |
