Techno is the next big thing....expect to see even more techno....and I would almost bet my life that we will see some of our local DJs moving from house to techno in the next 4-6 months.

I would love to see that. There would be so many more parties and nights out I'd enjoy then if house starting receding and techno replaced.

That would be my heaven!! Less house, MORE TECHNO!

But, I like Cribs point to,

Yea because we need the locals to overplay and whore out another genre... I'd rather it stay in the somewhat underground scene.

I dont want techno ruined by mass over exposure like the way house is going (has been going) on in TO.

Techno will never be like house is in Toronto.
Electro is the closest thing to techno you're going to see "mainstream" in this city.

Well, in a very short timeframe we have what..

- Steve Bug
- Josh Wink
- Hawtin
- Magda
- Monolake
- Mike Shannon
- Chris Liebing
- Ame
- CVS

and this is just within the next month and a little bit (yeah, some of those are more in the tech-house camp, but still, they have techno-appeal) - things are looking good.

While I doubt Techno will be as big as House/Trance, it seems to be gaining steam over the past year and continuing to grow. With Footwork getting killer bookings, and Crosstown is picking up steam, and I'm curious to see what will be going on with Opium this summer (is SystemA/Tone/etc going to be starting up again? - The SystemA rooftop patio's were always nice), toss in TOI Bar on Fridays, and if you like techno - you have allot of options of where to go to hear it.

I dont really care if techno is 'mainstream' or as big as house music (and I kinda dont want it to be :P), but, I do like the fact that its picked up enough of a following again in Toronto to get some consistently good bookings coming through town.
