Poly ringtones for Canadian phones

so i bought a new phone, sony ericsson w810, thinking that it plays MP3s naturally i expected it to play mp3 ringtones, but for some stupid reason, unknown the me, it does not :whip: (teaches me right to do thorough research)
nonetheless, the phone came with probably 5 ringtones, 4 of which suck terribly. not even a single of the most basic 'ring ring' ones. SO!, the last couple of days i've been on a quest to find a website where i can download decent poly ringtones that can actually either send them to a rogers phone, or where i don't have to buy an annual membership for 1 file (i am ok with paying a couple of dollars for a ringtone)
so, does anyone out there know of sites that could help me? or if maybe you know of a program that is easy to use that can transfer mp3/wav files into midi files? |

| The W810 does play mp3 ring tones. It is a walkman phone afterall and its made for mp3's. I just bought one for my girlfriend and it works great. You just need to install the software included with the phone and use the USB cord or use bluetooth to transfer your songs. |

oh really? ok i guess i'll go through software then, cause when i looked at specs it only said poly ringtones, i got a little bummed out
thanks for the tip!
blueadept, is it my understanding that they only send stuff straight to your phone on that site? so if i have an mp3 file, it will come as an mp3 file to my phone, right? i can already do that through bluetooth or a pc cable. my problem is using mp3 ringtones. but thanks anyways :) |

You can make the ringtones using audacity or something and then upload them to the site and download via your phone's browser. I use it all the time for mp3 ringtones. The included "gcd" file will identify the mp3 as a ringtone, not as a music file. |

I bought the same phone, thinking the exact same thing. when I got home, I open it up and started to play with the phone. I loaded up all the songs I wanted on the phone. But when I went to switch ringtone, It wouldn't let me.
I was like ummmm whats going on here? so I looked in the instructions to see how to change the ringtone. But it really didn't tell me anything new. few days later, I go back to the same rogers store where I bought the phone. I ask the guy how to change ringtones on this phone and I tell him how I can't change the ringtones.
The salesman told me, I have to pay 60 bucks to get a guy to come in and unlock the feature or I can do it for free. But I would have too switch all my mp3s to a different format. I was like ummm ok... |

| Wow! Thats terrible! Thank god I just bought an unlocked, unbranded one from an asian retail store and that its still quad-band instead of buying one from rogers. |

so, all it is is a move from rogers to screw people over
and there i thought i was leaving fido for good |
|

| loogie |
| think it has more to do with licensing than rogers trying to screw ppl over |

| I'm gonna have to agree with apri_peel on this one. There pretty much sucking up more money for their products in any way they can. For rogers to have to lock up a feature like this and having to pay for "their ringtones" is total crap. |
