Casio ex-s600 6mp, it's such an awesome clubbing camera due to the fact it takes videos in 640x480, quality of video and sound are superb.

View quality seems perfect, but sound is a bit squeaky. I've Sony DSC-W70 video quality is maybe a bit worse than yours but sound is way better.

Thanks for the awesome vid.

Any chance you took one when PVD dropped Super 8 & DJ Tab - Needs to Feel?

My Review:

Second Sun: I had been warned prior to coming that these guys weren't anything special. Was I ever suprised!!! I thought they showed tremendous energy and did a good job of firing up the crowd for the fun to come. The thunderstruck remix was cool to see. Everytime I see a live PA I'm tremendously impressed. This was no exception. I just wish I would have been able to catch NuNRG in their heyday.

Ferry Corsten: I love Ferry Corsten. I saw him play for 6 hours in Toronto in September of 2006. That set was amazing. This one was even better. He has so much fun behind the decks it's incredible. He kept dropping bomb after bomb. All of the huge tunes off of LEF.

Ferry highlights:

  1. Ferry Corsten - Galaxia -> Such a huge trancer with an breakdown of epic proportions. He played it quite early in his set and I thought it did an excellent job of setting the mood. It definiately got me moving.

  2. Breakfast - The Sunlight -> Awesome awesome tune, the crowd really seemed to enjoy this one.

  3. Colplay - Fix You (Ali Wilson remix) -> What is an top notch trance set without a Coldplay remix? Another definate crowd pleaser.

  4. Art of Trance - Madagascar (Remix?)-> This was the biggest tune of Ferry's set IMO. Such a classic done updated for 2007. Thought the roof was going to cave in at this point.

Paul van Dyk: This was my first time seeing him. Ferry had set the bar so high I was concerned that PVD would be a bit of a letdown for me. I'm shocked to see some PVD vets express disapointment or comment that PVD is capabled of a better performance. I don't think I would be able to handle anything better than that set. There is no doubt in my mind why he is the best/#1/whatever dj on the planet. Check that video for the reason why. He did that time after time all night. I really didn't want his set to end but I was starting to get a bit tired and really had come to see Eddie Halliwell on his home turf.

PVD highlights:

  1. FKN feat. Jahala - Why? -> This the track from the video quoted. Watch it and watch the crowd go off. It was intense, and there were many moments like it during Paul's set. I thought he was spot on. He did a masterful job of building it up and then dropping the hammer.

  2. Super8 & DJ Tab - Needs to feel (Wippenberg remix) -> Without question this was the tune of the night. When Paul dropped the bassline after the first break I felt the foundation of the BIC shift 6 inches. The scream from the crowd nearly overpowered the sound system.

  3. Filo & Peri - Anthem -> I knew that Paul was going to play this. You just had to know that this was going to be his closing tune. Personally I think it tries to hard to be an 'anthem'. A bit of a letdown to an amazing set IMO.

Eddie Halliwell: I had only had the chance to see Eddie on one other occasion and he instantly became my one of my favourite dj's. I have an insatiable appetite for any of his liveset and listen to his BBC radio show on a weekly basis. I was so pumped for his opening to his sets because they really are something special.

CAUTION: I'm not trying to slag Eddie!!! I hold him in quite high regard.

Was I ever disapointed!!!! I'm really hoping there was something wrong with the dj setup because that was the most absolute opening to a set I have ever seen. I saw some technicians running around so that makes me wonder if everything was in order. Perhaps there was some problem switching over from the left to the right dj setup. Seemed to work fine for Ferry though. Nothwithstanding, the first mix sounded like gunfire; off beat and sloppy. I also noticed a distinct change in the trebley range of the sound system. While Eddie uses the eq's alot I thought that this was the house sound that was colouring the mix. When he dropped the bass after the opening scratchy bit the harshness in the mid and upper range persisted.

I typically love the techy tracks Eddie opens his sets with but these ones didn't feel quite like they went together. Personally, I thought Eddie killed the vibe and did an excellent job of clearing the room. He missed at least 3 cuts early on and was just not on top form. If that was because people chose to leave after PVD or due to the massacre behind the decks we will never know.

It was great to hear Eddie drop Bedrock - Heaven Sent, so nice to hear that on a big system.

Overall I had an awesome time. I thought the decor was top notch and was very impressed with the lights and sound. That was exactly the sort of production I was expecting. The facility was clean and comfortable, we found a super secret washroom what wasn't being used by as many people so that was a major plus. We arrived around 10pm and there were no major queues to deal with. I thought the security staff were friendly. The only way that this night could have possibly been any better would have been the addition of Armin van Buuren in Eddie's timeslot.

I think it just goes to show how spoilt we are in the UK/Europe when we think that an event like that at the BIC is pretty mediocre, yet anyone from over the pond thinks its pretty damn good. And we see the top dance DJ's week in week out and we'll know when they play a crap set...i've seen PvD at least 8 times in the 12 months, and his set that night was poor!!
