I take it you mean as in network them. Well go down to pc world, or maplins, etc and get some network cards, nice and fast, and ask the peeps there what cable you should use. Get the rj45 network cards, and the rj45 cable, i think it is that anyway. Fast connection.

Do you both wanna play over the net, and only connect to one lien, if so Windows ME does it, and i assume win 2k should. It should be under connection sharing. Just follow the guidlines :)

Other wise it is fairly simple :)

ya Couuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup

...if u can afford it, buy a couple of network cards (should be pretty cheap - around $25 aussie dollars...so not sure what that is in pounds, about $15 USD tho)

and then just a crossover cable to connect the two computers

...later, if u want u can get a hub or switch to connect more computers together, with more network cards & cables too of course

if u really want to do a serial connection (very very very slow!!) you can pick up a serial cable from any computer store and just link via a spare com port (the ones the old mouses used, or even extenal modems, if they're not usb)...then i'm not sure about other windows, but i know in 95 & 98 there was a control panel or network option for "direct connection"...where it will create a network connection over serial cables...the cable should be very cheap...but personally i'd recommend splashing out for some network cards (much faster xfer & more useful if u intend to expand later) :D:D:D

if u have 2k/me/xp i'd expect they should be able to do it too...i have 2k, and it's just in the "make new connection"...you can also use parallel cables (i remember they were named after a program/utility i think...which would do the same as a serial cable, but being parallel...worked much faster with xfer!)...so if you can find one of these, get it over the serial one!

for both serial/parallel & network (lan)...you'll have to have the computers in the same house/room tho...so i'm not sure if that's what u want...limited by the lenght of the cables of course
otherwise, i'd say you're stuck with using the internet to play games 'cos i don't think you can create a dial-up connection with cable :p:p:p

Coup if he is at yours you can share your connection over the network, but i tol you how to do that before :)

You can also share a 56k connection over a network, but i would like to play online sharing a 56k modem :)
Mail Man
You will need network cards cos with most games serial cables can not send the info down the line fast enoght. If you do buy network cards then u had better hope ur parents let u take the pcs to each others houses a lot as networking is expensive.

The last time i used a serial cable was to play WARCRAFT but me and my mate had to get network cards so we could play Carmageddon together. So if you are going to be playing any recient games then u will need network.

I went to maplins and they had on special offer a pack which had 2 network cards and the cable u need to link them together - only £20, but that was a offer price normally £30. Ive used them to play games and share internet conections and its quite easy to set up to.

null modem cables (the ones u use to link via the serial ports) are too slow for most games as fraggle & mail man said

it took me quite a while to get my mom to let me take my pc to my friends place (years ago), but she did not have a freaking clue about PC's i did and eventually she saw my point 'nothing will happen to it!'
