job interview...

I have a job interview with GM on friday... they called me on monday to confirm the appointment and all that stuff, talked about salary and what not, it was a first approach on the phone and they said they were interested in meeting me asap.

So, when I asked the rrhh lady about the position they were offering, she started talking about nonsense and tried to change the subject, and she could barely say it was something regarding "strategic planning in the tech department"... but nothing else. I even insisted and she simply said she didn't have anymore information about it, I mean wtf, but whatever.

I've been asking my friends for advice on what to read and how to prepare for this interview and they all have been pretty much clueless... I think I should read about the manufacture of cars, what weird technology is involved in that process perhaps??? I really don't know.

I'm looking for a few pointers if anyone has had an interview with GM before and what kind of material I should be reading for this interview.

The guy who's supposed to do the interview is the general manager of that "tech department"...

Thanks in advance.

I would read about the new technology in cars. Especially GM cars

hey dude, first off good luck on the interview, hopefully its a cool position and not something ty.

personally if i were to be in your shoes, i would just brush up on GM's history and their newest developments. Maybe read about the car show, that happened not too long ago in detroit.

how old are you people? lol. Like GM wants to talk about the future of cars with you. They are most likely hiring as admin or tech and want someone who knows the specific skills for which they are being hired.

Thats what they want to talk about btw: You. and how your skills are relevant to their workplace.

As someone mentioned before, you should know what position you applied for. If not, think as to where they may have obtained your resume, and what positions you're qualified for (check their Careers website).

Brush up on company history, recent events involving the company, relevant details to the position you're interviewing for.

Other than that, with the limited information, I can't think of anything else that you should prepare. Good luck with the interview!

yes I know that... I didn't even apply for a position in GM. Apparently and from what she told me, she got it from the college I went to... I didn't bother to call my faculty to check on that, because it's not the first time it has happened.

About the money part, she was insisting about the salary bit and she started throwing figures all over the place... so I just told her a minimum salary to begin the negotiations and that we would still have to discuss those figures when we sat down. I do know money isn't a part of a job interview until they have accepted me for the position, but she just pushed it and got annoying so I threw a figure.

I've read all about their basics but I'm focusing on the strategic planning bit, today a friend of mine pretty much told me all about the position, it's mostly management... I'm not looking forward to that type of job, but if they are prepared to offer the money I demand, I figure it's worth to think about it, who knows right??

p.s.: I'm not a pothead lol
