| I was listening to NOVA the other morning and was surprized that they played: Minamalistix - Close Cover. I think its great that the number 1 radio show in melbounre (its got the most listeners according to the latest statistics) is really starting to get into the trance scene. But when i talked about this with a mate.... he said it sucks... it makes great tunes become commercial...i was just wondering what others thought about it? |

Weel I don't listen to the radio much these days (none of the good stations can get a permanent license) but when I do it's almost always Nova. I can't stand any of the others: at least Nova takes some risks with their playlists, not like Fox "let's-play-Casey-Chambers-874-times-a-bloody-day" FM.
So yeah. I'd say it's a good thing: I'd rather have the odd good track be played to death than not having it played at all. And after all, any station that plays anything by Timo Maas (as commercial as his new one is) gets my seal of approval. :) |

Nova in Sydney tends to stick with more conventional stuff .. though when they play pop songs they tend to play the dance remixes and stuff. Agreed its better than other radio stations, but still not that great.
And I know what you mean .. the first time u hear 10 In 01 or the Riva remix of Rapture on the radio, it's kinda depressing. It's good that it gets people into the right sort of music, but at the same time it creates a commercial scene, and I think most people don't want a commercial scene. However, Nova Sydney play live mixes and stuff overnight .. heard one from Matt Darey once. Damn that was good.
Having a quiet saturday night in for a change, and suddenly some sweet trance starts bangin' out the radio at 3am .. sweeet :D |

Nova is cool over her in Sydney... they seem to play alot of dance remixes to the norm of other stations...
This i like, but people what is wrong with commercialism?
Ok sure were are traditionalists that love the underground scene but lets face it... if you can get payed MORE than what you already do wouldn't you do it?
Ok u play @ underground raves for not much or free even.. and a club asks you for double money than what you get.. of course people, that way you can buy more vinyl and have money to buy the latest gear!!!
Don't bad commercialism too much, surely it takes away sum, but not all... DJ's will be DJ's... |

bassaholix: I was thinking of writing something like that but you got in first! :)
I don't really see anything wrong with "commercialism" of music, couldn't it get maybe more people into it? Thats what you want at the end of the day isn't it? Having as many people enjoying your music as you can get? I mean I'll be honest and say I start to get sick of hearing the same song over and over but then it fades away. Bagging a track because it is too commercial or it gets played a lot on radio seems a bit silly to me, and a bit elitist as well.

I quite like '10 in 01'! I would love it if I heard it on the radio! |
