no, those people are not the trance crowd because they don't go to any other trance events. if it's not tiesto, armin, ferry or pvd, they dont know it and wouldnt bother attending

those people's regular club nights include top 40 club nights

those people are not at armin for trance music, it's way way down on their list of reasons to attend such an event

That's absurd. Is there any rationale to this at all or is this just your personal views and assumptions? This is like saying I'm not a fan of band music because I only attend the Chilli's concert or Cold Play's concert. Just because you assumed that these people club reguarly at top 40 nights doesn't make them any less of a trance fanatic if they listen to trance music on their own time and happen to choose those big Dj's as their favorite artists. That is how it all starts anyway for most people most of the time.

I was at Armin and as far as I can remember, the crowd at Plush was definitely into the music as much as any other trance event I have attended and I have attended many, from nights as packed as Armin and from nights as dead as GTR/Pulser @ Plush.

People club to have fun. Not everyone is that anal about the music. For most people, they just want to party where their friends are. Getting the best bang for the buck is good. I'm all for money savings, but what good is it if none of your friends are there?

and a lot of times it may be only one person in the group who knows who armin is and the rest are there just cause

i've been to a lot of trance events in vancouver too, i have seen the people who go to the big events and to the small, i've talked to them, i've been to top40 nights too and i've also seen the kind of people go there. most importantly, i've seen how the trance scene has changed over the years. to be a real trance fan you'd need to know what trance and not techno is, who the artists are and regularly listen to the music. i'm not trying to be an elitist, but if the people who come see armin refer to his music as techno, im sorry, even if they're having the time of their life at the party because they popped so much E, they are still not a trance fan.

I just feel that if you want this to happen...

making trance more popular and hopefully more accepted

...then you will have to put with people that take longer to learn more about the music. Like I said before, not everyone is that anal about the music. Some will learn more about it faster than others. Some won't even care enough to ever try to learn about it. In the end, you shouldn't have to worry so much about what other people think.
