ya ya i'm loving this, keyboard mouse adapter for the 360. Time to start modding, even though the 360's already been modded and emulated...

rom aka legal game backups included...god i love it!

This is a bigger step for 360 than I think most will realize - With the availability of the the commercial XNA kits, sooner rather than later there will be homebrew versions that far exceed the ones Microsoft provides - In turn, this will (hopefully) create a homebrew scene that will rival if not drastically surpass the one that existed on the Dreamcast.

Very exciting news - Hopefully Sony will follow suit and start providing developmental materials to it's customers. I don't see it as unrealistic, and it may honestly become a necessity if the Xbox scene explodes. Sony's machine is certainly capable of some interesting mods, hopefully it will become a fun "top this" kind of competition between the two, a situation in which gamers can only benefit.

As I look at both machines, from a computer building perspective, i've pulled away that most Sony applications can be modded at the user level where it seems like the xbox might require 'in store mods', similar to xecutor chips, soldering, case mods, etc. The tutorials I've followed so far make it so that the Sony mods seem much easier than the xbox mods.

I'm not ruling out MS and their products on any top level mods, just that it seems like its a service you have to pay for to have the ability to dig deeper and probably have a better ability to go further than Sony's machine.

Sorry m9 - You're apparently misinformed. There's already a straight up USB mod for 360 that is literally "plug & play" modding, no opening the case, no soldering. Besides which, the availablity of XNA kits will inevitably lead to further simplified hacking of the 360 - something Sony won't even come close to matching (and this is not said as an MS "fanboy," it's just a fact that Sony isn't giving PS3 dev. materials to the public.)

Ah I was talking about mods like the PS3's ability to dump a 160gb hd in to replace the 20/60 thats already in there. The mod is literally face plate, 1 screw, disconnect sata, slide drive out, slide drive in, replace sata, screw back, face plate back.

Maybe I haven't read up enough on the 360 mods, although I know for a fact my friends modded 360 has some crazy capabilities. He picked his up in Japan and all the mods were already installed on it for him.

I agree Sony won't come close to matching the 360 mods, just that it seems easier to homebrew the sony deck then it is for the MS deck thats all.

It might be pretty eassy to mod the system - But I guess I don't follow why you think it'll be easier to homebrew on the PS3? Their software, I thought, was notoriously difficult to program for - And when you couple that with dev. materials not being made public, I guess I just don't see how it'll be at all easy to work on homebrew software for the PS3.

If I'm ignorant or missing something here, please feel free to point it out to me - I'm just wokring on the best info I have.

in reality it's not, especially with Sony because the actual soft-mods are ran in an emulated environment. I guess you can say the same for some of the MS mods, but alot of current apps that I run on my PSP have nothing to do with the UMD or the PSP loading deck, it's all ran off of the memory stick which emulates the deck (provided that the firmware allows it).

Some of the soft-mods on the 360 I saw took a bit of programming just because the ms deck is so complex. That's why I concluded but never actually handled the MS mod. I'm just findin the psp mods to be much more easier than any prior, even easier than the xbox and ps2 mods.

Since I don't own a 360, although am looking to invest, I should really work on one to determine anything. I guess my overall point is, I'm having a ton of fun modding my psp that I don't even have time to work on anything else. I haven't even neared the capacity of the PSP yet as I've seen some things done to a psp that i desperately want on mine.

MOdding a PSP and modding a PS3 are drastically different situations, no fair comparison! :p
