NYE gigs...

so, i played a gig that was run by Red Bull a couple of months ago. got it through a friend of a friend. long story short, it wasn't the right place or the right time for an electronic music DJ, but whatever. they took an assload of time to pay me as well.

so yesterday, i'm at work at my dad's autoshop, my hands covered in grease, and my cel. starts to vibrate. i can't pick it up like this, plus it just meant a new message was there. whatever, kept working. went on my lunch break, took a nap, back to work. like at 4pm, i remember and decide to check it out. voicemail. very indistinct message, saying it was Harold (he's the guy that does PR for Red Bull or something) and asks me to call back.

i do some other stuff, as i thought it wasn't really important. called him a bit after. he asks what my plans are for NYE, and then asks how much i would charge for a ~5 hour set. oh, and it's at the Hard Rock Cafe, he says (they just opened one here about 2 months ago).

so, basically... w00t! got me my biggest gig to date, and most paying one by far. i'm awaiting some confirmation from RB before i blabb about this to all my friends, wouldn't wanna end up looking like an ass. still, w00t.

any of you guys got gigs for NYE? do share.

no NYE gigs for me this year, i'm going to party instead of work

although it looks like i'll wind up playing a special guest appearance at the club i'll be at, was told to "bring your tunes, just in case"

as for the pay, NYE generally charges double your usual rate, there are some that make away like bandits some years

one year dumonde played here, promoters flew in their whole family to be with them on new years
RJT
Two years in a row with no new years gig. :(

It's so weird, gigs all over the place this year, but no interest for new years... :conf:

i was just the opposite.

spun my first gig out in late late 2005. only got that one that year. for NYE though, i had a blast at a killer party, and spun at the private afterparty on the 1st (wasn't a gig, as it was among friends. really cool that i got to spin in front of the NYE headliner, Frank Lorber. he liked my stuff :))

this year. only a few gigs. maybe a handful or so. has a lot to do with the crackdown on nightlife we had here with a bunch of new laws, but still. and then this... nice surprise :D

I haven't had my first gig yet and I am more than ready. Maybe a house party will come along or something.

i have 2 afterparties to play at though on the 1st

one a house party and the other i'm the headlining act at an afterhours spot (TBC)

Good luck with the gig mate! Hope it all comes through ok for ya, sure you'll rock it ;) (sorry, dirty dirty pun there...)

This is the first year I've got any new years gigs and somehow I've managed to land myself with 2 of them!

I'm playing at The Fridge in Brixton (London) for their new years eve party (with a load of UK hard trance live acts & DJs like MDA & Spherical etc headlining the main room), I think I've got quite a late set - about 4 or 5 in the morning, in the 2nd room... that'll be a tech house/electro/techno/breaks set (http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/london.../31/event-91122)

Then I'm playing in the techno room for a psy-trance event (with Skazi headlining) on new years day at a club called The Renaissance Rooms in Vauxhall (also in London)... (http://www.resistants.co.uk)

On top of that I'm going to Brixton Academy on new year's eve for Heat & The Gallery's big bash with Above & Beyond, etc etc before I go to my gig at the Fridge... (http://www.heatuk.com)

All in all very busy this year!

Congrats- hope it goes well! Contacts, network, contacts.

Personally I hate it
Always take it off now, although to be fair I am so pissed off with the business full stop I don't really have any enthusiasm for any gig whatsoever at all at the moment.
Allied Nations
Looks like I may have a spot on the 30th, but no 31st :(

I got a house party with one of my buddies. He spins hip-hop but I'll forgive him. :p Should just be with a bunch of friends and no pressure. Should be a fun night so long as we keep the alcohol away from the equipment... Drunk people don't have such a good sence of direction for some reason....:stongue:

I'll have to listen to some of the Ministry of Sound cd's to figure out how i'm gonna transfer from hiphop to trance or vice versa... :nervous:

Congrats on the gig. 5hr set on NYE would be a dream set!

I'm at The Docks in Toronto, Canada alongside Cosmic Gate :)

good luck bro :)

i'll have to whip out some more commericialish tracks than i normally play as well, as even tho the Hard Rock here is a great venue, it's not anywhere near being an EDM club. i have some more general people pleasing tracks that are also very good, so it shouldn't be a problem.

thanks to everyone who has wished me luck, and good luck on your gigs these days as well. :D
