Right,

I think we all know it's got to the stage where we're pretty tired of seeing all these threads regarding what do I buy etc etc.

How about a new forum: New Equipment Advice and DJ Startup Advice

This way all the stuff that bores us daily can go there, and discussion relating to proper matters at hand can be dealt with here - still including such areas as:

New Technology
Technique
Experiences
Ideas and Concepts
Recommendations
and the list goes on......

But basically create another forum in the 'DJing / Production / Promotion' called 'New Equipment Advice and DJ Startup Advice' solely to handle just the sort of thing thats making this forum into a bit of a joke just lately.

With more and more people becoming interested in this technology now is the time to make some sort of change, otherwise the problem WILL get worse IMO.

Anyone want to second this motion???!

Nah - Bad idea. The kinds of things you're describing yourself as "sick of" pretty much make up the entire content of this forum. There's no need for a seperate forum, this one is just fine, and would probably die completely if we created the forum you're suggesting.

Thank you RJT for commenting. However, I disagree with you, the life and soul of this forum is not such posts as "What do I buy". I took a snapshot of topics at the exact time of writting, and I think you'll agree, most of them are great topics, and a handfull are the tedious beginner advice questions that we get all the time. Take a look:

pcv-275 [NEW EQUIPMENT ADVICE]

So thats approximately half. OK, so it cuts down on the total posts, but when the posts it cuts down on are so boring and repetative surely it's a good idea.....?

I don't now, it just may make things more confusing - And may detract from the quality of answers given to people. I would probably never go into a "New Equipment" forum, but now, if I see a new equipment thread where I am able to offer genuine advice, I generally post in it.

A lot of the more experienced folks in this forum may not make the effort to help the new folks in a different forum - If we keep it all together, odds are more people will be satisfied more consistently :)

Crikey you replied fast! I suppose I'm looking at it from the other end of the scale, thinking with all this stuff staying in here those of us like me are going to be disatisfied more often.

People aren't searching before they post. Is there any other answer - something needs to be done! But what - any other suggestions?

nutsan
although the posts are annoying, the forum hardly moves fast enough to warrant a separate forum.

It's a tricky problem m8 - Because you really run the risk of alienating people if you expect them to just understand a particular forums ettiquette before they begin posting. Many people sign up for TA solely for gear information, and this is their forum. Now, there are those of us who've been here and have no need for these comparison/new gear threads, but that means we can also just not read them.

Now, I do think we need to educate new folks to conduct themselves in a desirable manner, however I think that process is often times better taken care of as a matter of trial and error as opposed to simply expecting people to read a FAQ or Stickied thread.

Just $.02 - But I think the nature of this forum promotes the kind of threads you're looking to eliminate, and we're far better just dealing with/ignoring them than trying to affect a genuine change in the way the forum operates.

Jarv - Don't think I'm ragging you either m8 - It's great that you're thinking of ways to improve the forum, I've just got a bit of a different perspective on the issue :)

Absolutely, it's great when two people can have opposing points of view and discuss it in a grown up manner.

Well, as we agree, my view is on one side and yours is on another, and to be fair I'd not considered some of the factors you'd mentioned.

However, I think the problem will get worse, and it's only to be expected when a noob signs in and sees half the postings are beginner advice threads.

I see the issue snowballing.

I know that I for one would definitely not make it a point to read or post in a forum dedicated to nood DJs and their equipment.

Amusing typo!

Yeah - me neither - although i might pop in from time to time, and some people are that way inclined, some people like to help and offer advice, a lot. Like SPAWNmaster - he loves helping people.

I thought the same as you about the track ID forum, who'd going to go in there except the people that want tunes ID'd? Turns out that on the 4 or 5 occasions I've posted an ID request in there some helpful soul has answered double quick, with the right answer.

I dunno - now I feel all mean and scrooge like, especially as it's Christmas!
