Toronto police believe that a man taken to hospital early this afternoon may have accidentally shot himself in the groin.
Emergency medical personnel were called to a stairwell of an apartment building on Jane St. just south of Lawrence Ave. W. where they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound, Staff Sgt. Bruce Bolitho of 12 division said.
He was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
At this time, police believe that the man may have accidentally shot himself, Bolitho said.
“The gunshot was probably self-inflicted," he continued. "It depends on the direction of travel of the bullet. If it goes in straight down then it was self-inflicted. We have to wait to hear what the doctors say. Some of these guys put their gun down their pants and . . .”
Police aren’t completely ruling out the possibility of suspects, Bolitho added.
