I just started playing unreal tournament online... the game works fine on my pc offline.. but when i play onlie it responds after a short delay.. sometimes it so happens that when i run forward and shoot rocket, i get hit by my own rockets.. again a lift hets activated a few seconds after i get on it... can anybody suggest how to get it straight.. i have got a 512 kbps DSL connection...

Its probably not you. Could be other peoples connection.

Also try not to have so many things running while your playing the game. Close all unnecessary programs down and try again.

See if that works.

hmm... i'm gonna try it out ryt nw

i tried but still its the same... i found out 1 more thing.. my ping value is high ... that means it takes more time to send or recieve data from the server... lower the value greater is the connectivty.. now how can i reduce this..

yeah, definitely a lag problem. the only way to fix that is to play on servers where you get a lower ping (normally regionally-based ones are the best). otherwise, youre just gonna have to learn how to play lag-based games (it can be done). i used to play Q3 on a 56K modem. you dont understand lag til you've done that! ;)

you could always host internet games and get them to join you.

You could do this but then you'd totally dominate everyone else with you having a 0 ping time and them all having 100+ ping times and thats being generous. I used to host games and people would leave the session within minutes of me killing them in a blink of an eye.

This problem of lag has plauged online gaming since the early days when I used to play Quake. High speed internet has certainly helped a ton, but lag issues are the main reason I refrain from online gaming. Especially in games where precise movements and timing are critical such as SF2 on Xbox Live arcade for example. I stopped playing because I was sick of fireball movements, shanglongs ,spinning piledrivers (don't even bother with that one), etc., either not coming out or coming out after they were needed. You can learn to adapt to the lag as most do, but for me I'm just going to wait until better, faster technology comes out that eliminates lag.
