A Twisted pre-New Years bash w/ARMIN VAN BUUREN!

exergo
cargo (twisted) used to do awesome shows at the commodore...

they had derrick carter one night in 2004 and there was a huge fight (possibly a stabbing, im not sure). i was there and cops were running in with huge automatic weapons, although i'm told they were just rubber bullets, but still....it was pretty freaky.

the night ended an hour early.

after that night the commodore only lets certain promoters do electronic/club shows....apparantly cargo not being one of them.

this video shows the atmosphere pretty well. can someone maybe ID that track?

Cara Dillon vs 2 Devine - 'Black is the Colour', didn't bother listening long enough to nab the mix/remix ID. The most popular of course is the Coco & Green Remix.

-nevermind, scrolled down, two other ppl IDed it. Thanks.

Is Victoria the only BC stop Tyas is making in 2007, or will Vancouver get another chance to hear this DJ?

I can try talking to him, I bet he'd love to come back, but I'd need someone from a local promotional group to show enough interest to help me on this one. I know a lot of other guys who want to come here too, mostly smaller but fairly solid dj/producers who have wanted to come here as well.

I got there late...just as Armin got on the stage, and it was fine. Sure, there wasn't a lot of room because it was so overcrowded, but it was easy enough to get near the front if that's where you wanted to be. I couldn't care less about the people around me and what they looked like or if they were polite, I wasn't there for them. Toughin' up.

while its true one should 'toughin' up, for those that have been going to 'trance' events in Vancouver over the past 5 years (maybe longer, maybe shorter), there has been of late a significant change in the crowd over the last 2 years. I can remember things at Viva when Danny ran things there, and PLUSH when it first 're-opened' and Marty and Adam were hauling big names in there. The crowds weren't as big, venues weren't overcrowded like they have been of late, but when they were pretty packed (I remember the first time Harding came to Vancouver when he was still relatively a nobody - Viva was PACKED) the crowds were different at these events. You'd often see the same faces at different venues, and while no one knew or really seemed to care about getting to know each other, there was a level of respect. You were respectful enough of your neighbor while still managing to have an all out great time.

Then about a year or slightly more ago I remember going to see Corsten somewhere, and getting elbowed in the face, the other guy didn't even notice or care. I had to practically shove 250 lb sweat stained and soaked drunken beheamouths far enough apart just so I can fit my girlfriend in beside me so we could stand there like sardines in the middle of what seemed like a mosh pit.

I've heard (not witnessed) stories about bouncers shoving people off stages and being indifferent to drunk people who should be carefully escorted to cabs, instead they're left to stumble face first into pillars or get thrown by the scurff of their neck into the pavement. I myself, while trying to hand a CDR to Bo when I saw Filo & Peri got grabbed by the neck and shoved towards the door and had to slip Elena the CD.

It's like a total reversal, how things are done and managed, the level of mutual respect in crowds, some of the promotional groups are starting to take more noticeable heat for their growing number of mistakes (from no-shows at summer events to the 'ticket fiasco' over Doom's Night) and it seems the number of complaints about events is starting to grow beyond the typical and almost ignorable comments relating to line-ups. I barely read these forums these days, and when I do I skim through the events here and there to get a feel for how everyone here is enjoying the events/clubs/crowds/djs/shows and I'm seeing more 'sluts' 'weed' 'pushing/shoving' and less 'the show was flawless, i had a blast'. There's still a lot of positive comments, but like Krys here, while sometimes I've had a legitimate excuse for not showing up at an event (like Ton TB I had that horrible stomach flu), for others I start falsly relating trance events to top 40 friday nights. The last three times over the past year I've been dragged to a club (a friend's birthday party the usual case), I ALWAYS witness some drunken fight between two people or two groups over some trivial crap. It's something that happens, and you deal, but it puts a damper on the vibe.

Meh I could go on but I've probably already embarassed myself enough. Hopefully I haven't made too much of an ass of myself (although I'm good at that since I am one). As well, don't let anyone think that I think poorly of all trance events and all people and all crowds, in fact almost every event I've been to has overall been a positive experience and I really hope I can find myself at another one someday soon in 2007!

Don't these 20 people bring others along with them? Whenever I go I bring an average of three more people in addition to myself. Suddenly that 20 turns into 80. Not to mention when I posted this event on facebook casually and by the end there were 30 people going (incl 5 of my friends).

That's pretty much it. They don't care. Public relations doesn't mean squat to them. It used to be all about the music, now it's about the money (understandably). The only thing I'm complaining about here is the ty sound. I can deal with high prices (to a point), 20 minute lineups (everybody is getting checked who cares?), late dj's (30 minutes is nothing- 1 hour is another story), overcrowding (adds to the intensity, that's what I love about these events), and bouncers (just stay out of their way).

Who was the promoter for Tiesto when he came in May?

The only "hard" thing about doing anything (in this case bringing in a DJ) is the steps to make that happen. Money can be found with a well-written proposal to a bank to obtain a loan. What actions are required by the promoter, however, are not so readily available. That's what I can't figure out at this point.
