Gorgomish has amazing sound, but so what?
The people in there are usually so drugged out
and anti-social it makes the whole vibe feel like
a funeral.

I seek VIBES, and Vancouver's got none.
Well .. little of it, in the house genre of things.

Anyway .. back to retirement .. have fun promoting.

:D

Though, I agree with you on many levels, I have to say that the #1 contributor to the 'VIBE' is the music. There is different music for different people, different drugs, different situations. But what it all boils down to is that the 'VIBE' you are trying to create is reached by the sound you are putting out. Because, basically, all we are is 'sound'...vibrating particles.

I'm not saying you need a 6 figure sound system to have a good time. Hell, I remember my friend drumming on the side a fire extinguisher box drawing a crowd to dance while waiting at an after-hours. But I think broken mixers or blown speakers can ruin a good vibe.

I feel that music comes from the stream of consciousness that flows into the musician which in turn runs into the DJ who acts as a conduit to bring it to the dancers/crowd. All integral pieces...the sound sytem is just part of that puzzle. Sure you can have a good "vibe" with shoddy gear but that's only when that can't be avoided. Why should I use a broken mixer when I have one that works?

Well enjoy retirement! I've been hitting parties since '92 (anyone remember the Pangea Warehouse parties or Dee-Lite @ Summerlove?) and I've retired and come out of retirement more times than I've got fingers. ;)
35 and hooked
Well put !!!!!!!

To be honest Van always had a vibe

Its not very often that a party here has a good vibe, and its not always about the music

For example Lawler played killer tunes all night, but the vibe was just terrible
DjCommisad
the 'vibe' has had ups and downs, mostly downs. music plays a factor. i think another factor is stability. nights change all the time, regular events are like an eyeblink in time. if it weren't for TA/FNK I'd never know about anything going on (there are other resources, ie record shops, ticket vendors, clubvibes, etc). there are some events that have been running awhile in the background, and some promoters that continue to put out events (like vivid) who just keep switching (for various reasons) the night/venue. just isn't a lot of stability because of the general music popularity/exposure/etc of this city (what is popular and what people are exposed to, and the relationship those factors have with each other). with stability i think there would hopefully/theoretically would come a level of expectations, a following of regular attendees, and hopefully you can build a vibe through the venue/music/djs (if the dj is interactive in the right way at the right times and the right amount, that's always a positive factor.. sometimes no interactivity is what is needed.. though not as often).

but who knows if any of this is right. i haven't attended an event in half a year and don't really have any solid desire to get out and 'enjoy' any others. 2 years ago i remember going to events and having a blast, the last one I went to, I had to enjoy it from the rafters as on the floor i got shoved around like i was at a mosh pit by people who were high/drunk and didn't give a fck about anything or anyone around them but themselves.
