Wow, sorry I went to this.
On the way out an employee told me that the sound system at Cyber cost $45,000. I explained to him that with the opening act you might be able to guess that.
When Fei-Fei came on, the gain was so high that EVERY SINGLE TRACK was completely distorted. You know that feeling at a club when everyone is kind of standing around, waiting for decent music to dance to? That was the feeling the whole time I was there.
Harsh. $20 cover, $20 on cabs, $25 on drinks. Hearing a dj who can mix, but can't use her ears and the eq/gain on her mixer? Worthless. |

oh damn, sorry to hear you didnt have that great of a time :(
the thing with cyber is that the sound system there really is great, but i dont know if its the DJs or the owner who really like to crank it up, and the place being so small it doesn't need much to make your ears hurt. but fei fei wasn't local, so maybe the owner had it turned up that loud ? |

i can tell you that some promoters like to have the gain to the max, guess they think limiters will compensate but things end up sounding like , and it's the same thing for pretty much all raves and a lot of club events put on by certain promo companies
on the other hand, when armin comes to town, even earplugs dont help me much because armin likes to crank up the volume
plus when you're inside a dj booth, you don't really hear what the sound is like on the dance floor because of the monitors
there could be a million reasons for why the sound was up so high that night, i wouldn't always put the blame on the dj |

| Whenever I play, I walk around all parts of the club to hear how the sound is coming out and try to adjust accordingly. I would sometimes step outta the booth or to ask another DJ who I know if the levels are ok. |
