That's one thing I was dissapointed to see so far in the Canadian rave scene... Go-go dancers.... (in Australia I've never even heard of the word). We may have similar dancers in strip joints but I think in general in Australia and in Europe (when I was in Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany) there is almost an unwritten law that sleeze and trance don't mix. Sure in clubs back home you will see girls get up on stage and go hard shuffling... but just as many (usually more) guys too and it's not about "hey look at me aren't I hot". People usually get up on stage back home to encourage the crowd to bust out and n dance coz the music rocks!! :D. Sometimes at raves back home up on stage you will also see sometimes the cities best glow-stringers and firestick spinners... which is wikked too. :toocool:
The trance scene in general from places I have visited has had a unique fun and friendly crowd of people and also such an uplifting and happy music. I know PLUR sounds cheezey (peace, love, unity, respect) but if you read up on it modern trance music and the widespead use of MDMA (which was before only used in therapy and marrage counciling) has origins more closely linked maybe than some people realise.
I understand that the scene here in Western Canada is very small and only seems somewhat at its infancy when compared to Europe (or even Australia). Obviously promoters (who also charge insane prices) are trying to attract many people to there gigs... without the backing of a strong fan base as there is no big weekly trance clubs nights or radio shows. Underground is good in a way but I hope people who actually understand and love the trance scence can put on more quality (and cheaper) gigs that will make it an experience for those who have never even heard of trance to fall in love with it. I'm sure there are many out there. So good luck those trance addicts wishing to promote and put on good quality parties ;) |

Thanks for a quality post. Something you see very rarely
and more seldom as days go by here on this side of the forum.
One liner wise cracks and stupidity, we're full of.
I really don't have the time and patience to read and
take part in this forum, but I will say this as I believe
your thoughtful and intelligent post deserves it.
North american kids take heavy influence from hip hop
culture and it seems to carry into any NA EDM scene.
A friend of mine just came back from this years LA Halloween
Massive and from what he says the situation is no better, if
not worse. Apparently crack is the drug of choice down there.
The party venue becomes a location to conduct massive acts
of drug abuse.
Bottom line, without dragging this out too long ..
People either don't know or have lost the meaning of PLUR.
The core that founded this generation of electronic heads.
Kids are getting confused and looking into hip hop as
an outlet to express themselves, but really and in reality
it's just sleeze and misrepresentation of their true identities.
Promoters aren't helping by being greedy whores,
and small start-ups lack funds or proper education in
business related matters to properly and successfully
expand the scene.
There are problems everywhere, and no one is talking about them.
Just waiting quietly for things to fix themselves while
the greedy pigs take their turn feeding off our desperation. |
