DIGITAL w/Andy Moor, Diamond & Lace - Oct. 7th (lng wkd)

Usually there's alot more white kids at these parties, but I guess alot of them spent this past weekend with family. This party was alright. Biggest hiccup of the night was set times.

I was expecting Dennis to open for Andy and played prog trance to that effect until Dennis could come on at 11:30 but at about 12:15 he came to me saying that the crowd wasn't feeling the housier stuff he was playing and it didn't help that he had an ear infection! So he told me to come back on and play harder. I tried softening it up for Andy by 1AM but he didn't end up getting picked up until almost 1:30 which resulted in a rollercoaster of prog-soft-hard-techy-soft-hard-techy music until he came on.

Needless to say, I don't think Andy was too impressed with the opening :( He didn't seem too enthused to be there (either because he was tired or just upset about the tech trance) and I just hope it wasn't because of that opening for him. There's nothing I hate more than people who open for DJs at clubs with banging hard trance right from the get-go and I'm usually a big critic of DJs who open like that. Openers typically should play more prog and house to warm things up for the main act.

I've opened for guys like Ferry n J00F before without any incident but this was not one of my happier moments. Its just that by the time Andy got there at almost 2AM, people were expecting harder more uptempo trance at that time of the night so that's what I gave them. Not exactly a shining moment for me, by any means. I just hope Andy wasn't too upset about the whole situation.

I thought his set was pretty killer. Some people I talked to weren't really digging the more progressive stuff, but I for one enjoyed it. A great change of pace for a Vancouver rave. Nicole (Diamond) threw it down hard as always and had the crowd rockin. I left midway through that set so I could get a decent sleep for Sunday dinner. Overall, a pretty good night!

That's the only reason why I have decided to stay home in Victoria and not see Andy for the 3rd time. I was really hoping for another clubnight with the Union guys opening, I really had a blast last two times.

The whole "Asian vibe" was also the primary reason why all of my friends from Victoria also gave this show a pass.

Too bad, Andy is amazing.
