R.E.M.G. is proud to present the Stones Throw 10th Anniversary Party. Once only a dream held by young DJ’s Charles Hicks (Charizma) and Chris Manak (Peanut Butter Wolf), Stones Throw has grown to become one of the biggest labels in indie music. Charizma’s dream was to get signed by a major record label but before the dream became a reality he passed away. Peanut Butter Wolf stopped making music following the death of his friend to find his true calling in promoting music. He created Stones Throw Records in 1996 and started by releasing the work of Charizma.
Ten Years Later, Peanut Butter Wolf has built his record label around the philosophy of the music being more important that the profit. Stones Throw records chose to only take on artists who Manak felt, had true artistic talent. Although Stones Throw Records did not focus on gaining a mainstream presence, they have had success with artists such as MF Doom who has broke into the mainstream with work on Talib Kweli’s Right About Now album. In celebration of Stones Throws 10 years in making great music, will be touring their party across North America.
Peanut Butter Wolf recently moved away from producing, to achieve international success as a DJ, performing across Europe, Japan, Australia and North America with his innovative, experimental techniques. Madlib has become one of the most sought-after producers due to his extensive attention to his artist’s compositions. His latest album Beat Konducta Volumes 1-2: Movie Scenes is a collection of ‘movie soundtracks’ for films that exist in Madlib’s mind. J. Rocc, an internationally renowned turntablist, is the founding member of the Beat Junkies, So Cal’s first turntablist band. He continues to invent musical styles that display his creative expertise. Highly recognized for his funky showcases and original arrangements, J.Rocc has clearly distinguished his place in music.
Over the ten years, Stones Throw records has had twenty-eight artists recording under their label, and released thirty-four LP’s, eighty SP’s and twenty-five instrumentals. These include music from emerging artists like Aloe Blacc, all the way back to the music that started Stones Throw by Charizma and Peanut Butter Wolf. On October 30, join Stones Throw Records at the Phoenix Concert Theatre to celebrate their 10th anniversary show with performances from some of their top artists. For a singer whose name means 'to move forward' in Sitswana, a South African language, her new album, Change It All, proves that enlightened change can be a positive force in the world of music and beyond.
