Time to bring something exciting to this city...this guy has to be booked here. Listening to his Rock the discoteque vol 3 and it's absolutely crackin! It's ridiculous he never played in Vancouver. Enough of progressive house acts already...iPray!

its about a thousand different things mate. it's the promoters (who they can get, who they want to get, who will represent them in terms of 'oh i remember so and so, they brought so and so out,' what they can sell, where they can book them, etc.), its about the djs (their schedules, bookings, productions, social and personal commitments, and about their politics, some refuse to come here, some will charge too much to come here) and the fans (who we want, who will actually go, etc.)

some promoters, big and small, have brought some legendary names, only for there to be more staff there than clubbers.

but by all means, lets badger the promoters. hehe. i know i've tried (all be it lackadazily and my connections are slim to none because of my lack of interaction with the local electronic community) to get some guys i know booked here. =)

(btw not saying don't make requests, just know they won't always be filled til we set up camp outside of promoters houses, you bring the beer i'll get the tent :) )

(not a fan of ipray, but his remix of rob mooney is still one of my favs of late).

you want the real answer to these types of questions... people in this city don't really support genres, and if they can't even do that, they won't support producers who have support in a couple of sub genres. Valentino is a great producer, I have some of his ollllllld intec tracks, and ones he did with Umek... but the irony is that the people who know individual tracks tend to not go out to club or not pay to go out to them

myself and gorgomish have had sub genre stars play with little-to-no support. lets take Infusion who are far from underground and break the genre barriers and charts with countless big names... still little support.. or Selway who has been charted by Cox, Sasha, Tiesto, Dave Clarke, Hawtin... so little support he actually gave money BACK!

as you can see, events in this city are going more and more for the bigger names... because they fact to. but if you do make sure that whatever small shows that happen are packed and that people react best to the music you want, or that people specifically comment on (lets say Bt playing some Dylan Rhymes or Scumfrog playing some Valentino) tracks, then things might move that way. Or that you spread the work to people that instead of dropping $40-80 on one show, you can take them to see 3 shows that will play the same music or even music that those people will enjoy more.

pretty much the crowds in this city are as inconsistent as ever. When Vivid was your only real dose of international names, we had more room to bring people in and people to want to try them out.. now with so many nights, its about the fun factor that is key

its also a big popularity contest, i suppose we're all aware of that though

vivid had a lot of regulars back at sonar who attended the shows on a regular basis. hopefully that clientele comes back to tokyo lounge so that we can get top international talent back in this city. and by top i mean artists with actual skills and talent, not just a pretty face and a big marketing team
