so, i'm building this massively kickass new computer with the new conroe chip and badass specs, but i was trying to figure out what game to play on it. i was going to replay half life 2, and episode one half life 2, and rome total war, but any other more recent game suggestions?

Hmmm depends on what you like. To truly see a beautiful game, check out Hereos V. The graphics and the amount of work that went into the game will amaze you. Sometimes I just sit and look at the screen its that good. It will give your new powerful rig a good run for its money because it is quite a demanding game. Check out Prey and HL2: Episode 1 both of which I'm playing now and they are great games. What videocard are you going to be using?

i used to like rpgs, but now i don't really anymore. after ff7 and ff8, it somehow went downhill for me and rpgs (although i'd still play those two over and over again)

now i'm probably mostly into FPS, action/adventure

Check out Oblivion and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. These will scretch the 36 pixel shader pipes the GT has to offer. If you cant afford them both; download them. Pleanty of torrents avaiable @ isohunt.

Anyway what Core2 chip did you decide to go with? From the looks of things the E6600 is the best value/performance with exeptional overclocking ability. What motherboard did you go with too? Id love to build a rig based on the new Intel CPU but i already have a healthy 939 system before me.

i decided to get the E6600. like you said, best value/performance chip that will be released. 2.4GHz default with potential to overclock to 4.0 GHz. i just hope supply will be high enough, and i'll be able to get my hands on one

motherboard: Asus P5W DH Deluxe 975X; this was highly recommended by anandtech as a very good complement to the conroe chip. plus it has wireless, and a remote control to command my computer. badass.

definitely the most hardware intensive game there is. pity its a bit crap tho. but that'll give any rig a workout.

Try out The Ship (www.theshiponline.com) it's pretty fun.

My roomate just built a rediculously spec'd out computer as well. Try F.E.A.R. maybe. I bought it for my roomate some months ago but he refused to play it until his computer was built. He seems to be really enjoying it now though, and it's gotten great reviews etc.

F.E.A.R
Battlefield 2
Ghost Recon: Adv. Warrior.
Splinter Cell: Choas Theory
Prey
Battle for Middle Earth II
NFS: Most Wanted Black Edition
Act of War: High Treason
Half-Life 2
DOD: Source
CS: Source

Good games to test the new machine there.
