Wow..
What a party this year. Myself, DannyO and 2 buddies (new to MN) started off a bit rough with some un-organized friends and unexpected delays, but once we hit the road, all was good. The beginning of 4 days of nothing but heaven!
We arrived late wednesday night, setup 80% of our camp site and then started drinking and watching the amazing lightning storm that was happening. I eventually decided to crash and DannyO and buddy #1 stayed up.

Thursday morning, got up to find that buddy #1 never went to sleep all night and was still up and drinking/smoking and cooking breakfast..:stongue: this is a guy who is about 280, 6'5 and had a broken leg and crutched around ALL weekend.. :D
Thursday was a day for chillin, nothin major going on at the Main Stage or the newly expanded and insane Fort Jag!!! If memory serves me correctly there was some partying to be had at the main stage, Thurs night, however it is very vague.. :p
Friday was nice and hot, plenty of time to chill out in the river and walk about checkin more stuff out. Alot of house and breaks were played during the day at the Main Stage, which is almost too much for my taste.. Main Stage this year was amazing, DannyO thinks last year was better with the projection screen behind the DJ booth, but this year was right over the top. Thanks to Katalyst and all the volunteers who helped with the contruction of it. :p Definitely more than I was expecting. This is only a pic of HALF the stage.. :eyespop:

Friday night played host to DJ's/Live acts such as James Katalyst, Intergalactic Faerie Funk, Kristoff, Treavor Moontribe, and some others that didn't catch my interest.. Friday was another blurry night.. :p
Saturday was the hottest day... My legs got completely burnt. I saved myself alot of drinking and such for later that day as to party it hard saturday night at the main stage. Sons of Aurora opening set for J00F was fantastic.. Nice to see them return to MN for another year. Hopefully they can make an appearence next year. J00F layed down an AMAZING set. The sound system that pK Sounds provided was absolutely MIND BLOWING, the basslines on the first couple tunes played by J00F destroyed your chest it was soo deep. Hand down to pK Sounds this year, for both the System at the Main Stage and The Fort. I can't ID much of what J00F played, but it was awesome to hear Astrix - On Fire drop as soon as Rise Sun City started their fire poi show, which was awesome to watch.. RSC really stepped it up from last year, incredible work!! Following J00F's set was Eskimo's live set, and for anyone that saw him in Vancouver the night before, if he played anything like he did at MN you definitely had a nice treat! Only part that I didn;t enjoy was his Ableton set.. He did almost as much dancing as the entire crowd and not much "mixing", but thats just my DJ-self being picky. :p I recall a few of his tracks that he dropped such as:
Eskimo - Party Pooper (remix/edit)
Eskimo - Ready to Rock
Astral Projection - People can Fly (Eskimo Remix???)
Psysex - Alien Cop (Eskimo Remix)
Was a party to NOT be missed this year. Met some interesting people, saw some amazing acts, and party my farking ass off.. See you in 2007!!

haha nice little review Josh, yea gotta say Motion Notion was once again an amazing event, it really does get better and better each year, the addition of the Fort was awesome, hope it is there to stay, couldn't help but think I was stuck in a Capture the Flag game when I was down there :D .
Krafty Kuts played an awesome set and really made the whole Fort go nuts, and boy did that system pump out some sound, you could even hear it up at the main stage  .
J00F also played an amazing set, then again I have always liked his sound ever since he played in my hometown like a decade ago.
I will say, like what Josh already mentioned, is that I did prefer last years main stage, this years stage had a very "Tribal" feeling to it, and the last couple years felt more umm "Electronic", just seemed to blend better with the sounds of Psy blasting, but overall since there are so many acts there, live bands and different style DJs, the "Tribal" setup seemed to be more suited to a wider range of acts.
My only complaint about the event would have to be that its too short, but thats because I really can't get enough, wish it could last like 2 weeks :tongue2 .
I'll try and get round to posting some pics as I took loads and also got a good amount of video....well one tape is filled with good footage and the other tape....umm well who knows whats on it, I was pretty mashed up by that time. :D
Also gotta say I loved listening to the Wassabi Collective and Shout Out Out Out, they both got a new fan now.
I'd also like to thank Katalyst and everyone that helps with the event, without you guys there would be no Motion Notion, and therefor my life would be incomplete. :D
Well I'll shut up for now, as I'm tired and could go on for hours about the event. |
