Hey there ATL/Southeast TAs. I just got accepted into the Goizueta Business School @ Emory for my MBA and will be moving down to Atlanta it looks like in August!!!
I'm REALLY psyched and was wondering if you guys could give me some advice about Atlanta... areas to live, nice restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. Any good websites?
Where is a good place to live that is close to Emory... I will have my car with me. I want a COOL place to live, even if it's a bit away from Emory... Are there cool neighborhoods in Atlanta that are similar to NY's Soho or West Village?
Any and all help is MUCH apprecaited!!! Thanks in advance.... I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i lived in atlanta i lived in the virginia highlands, very cool place, walking distance to lots of local bars, pubs, and amazing resturants! pretty close to emory and close to piedmont park and downtown and midtown. very arts oriented and super cool people and neighborhoods. kinda pricy but you can find some decent deals. look at older buildings, houses converted into apartments, etc.
don't judge atlanta for the weather in august, you are moving there during the hottest most humid month of the year but it does get better so just hold on, end of septemeber, october is very nice.
i'll let the rest of the ATL TA's give you info about the clubs but atlanta has to be one of the best cities as far as resturants go!!!!! tons of great ones
good luck, i'm in LA now but visit home twice a year. maybe we'll run into each other over christmas at a club

Keith,
Welcome to the ATL!! It will be good to have ya around. Congrats on Emory, such an awsome place to be.
Ok, here is my advice on where to live and play. You might want to consider anywhere in the Decatur area close to Emory. It is easy to shoot over to school but close to the city for anything you want to do. Virgina Highlands are nice but pricey.. (Coming from NYC, it might not crap compared to what you are used to paying!) I would consider the piedmont area, The grant park area, Cabbage town, Inman park, Little 5 points, Poncey Highlands, ect.. Pretty much if you look at a map of Atlanta, Anything north of I-20 and East of I-85 is kinda of what is going to be like Village in NYC. You could consider looking in Buckhead too for a bit less of the bean sprout eating crowd and a bit more of the cavier crowd. Are you looking to be in a apartment, loft, house, what do you want to live ina nd that might help me to narrow an area down for you. (PM me and I also can link you to some rental information that I have access to down here.)
As far a what to do when you are here. Check out www.creativeloafing.com or www.accessatlanta.com . Both those sources can let you know what is around here. There is plenty to eat in this city. EDM clubs are limited but if we know what you are into, we can point you the right way. Just get your ass down here and get a place, we will not let you go long without booze and food!! |
