Gabriel & Dresden in New Orleans.

I wasn't planning this trip but as always unexpected things are the best by their nature and results.
Last week was rich for different events. On Monday I got my Green Card, on Tuesday I had my first interview on Sirius Radio and on Thursday I got a promotion at work I planned to have my weekend as quite and as relaxing as possible until I made a phone call to one of Austin's hotels late on Friday night. After I hung up it took me 2 minutes to go to jetblue .com and book my flight to New Orleans. I was going to see Gabriel and Dresden!!!
Little packing and almost right after work on Saturday night I was heading to JFK to catch my flight.
I arrived to Luis Armstrong International airport at 8.50 am and was almost immediately picked up by H. Sorry for waking you up! I never been to New Orleans before and mostly because I was fascinated to see the city after the hurricane Katrina I asked H to take me for a ride. It took us about 3-4 hours to have a full tour around New Orleans and the suburbs. I have to admit that despite last years hurricane the city (some parts of it) looked amazing. It had that old southern accent in everything. And as I shared my opinion with H, it seemed to me like somebody brought me back to the time of Scarlet O'Hara (no, I'm not a big fan of "Gone with the Wind" LOL).
While H was driving and telling me the stories about New Orleans I was snapping picture after picture and in a few hours I already had a set of 500 pictures. 17th Century looking uptown, French Quarter with its Café du Monde and Sunday markets, Mississippi river walk - all was stunning even in +90F and up. Oh and ironwork balcony rails -loved them!!!!
Then we went to the part of the city that got damaged the most. All the houses were abandoned with meaningful stains on the walls that indicated the level of water raised during the hurricane. Once those houses were gorgeous mansions but right now they all looked alike – windowless, depressing, with a scary "crossed-circle" sign on the walls. I don't think we met any people or even any cars while we were browsing in empty streets.
In the evening we (there were already 7 of us - Gabriel & Dresden lovers) went to the dinner to Café East. I had two glasses of white wine and was completely drunk when it was a time to go to the club. Thanks H, either you wanted me to have a bad impression about the club or you were trying to warn me not to expect much from a small New Orleans' lounge but I thought the venue was great! People were warm and so friendly.
We got to the club shortly after 23 o'clock. Gabriel & Dresden started playing about 30 minutes after and they rocked!!! They were dancing behind the decks, singing the lyrics of the tracks along with everybody else in a club and just having a good time.

I adore Armin, I'm absolutely dedicated to Tijs and I think Matthew Dekay is one of the most talented producers but when it comes to G&D, I have to admit - they are my new unconditional love.
On Sunday H&H and I went to Café du Monde. We had café au lait and beignets. It was a time to say good bye to a wonderful city called New Orleans. One of the most beautiful places in the United States.
My flight was delayed and on the way to NYC I got into the biggest turbulence I can remember. It was like a circque du soleil – lightening was striking outside of the aircraft and light went off in the salon of a plane, instead it started flushing with red and orange lights. Plus it felt like for 2 mins we were in a free fall. Pretty scary!
And.. many thanks go to:
G&D, for a massive musical orgasm that I have experienced, for being so talented and so wonderful.
H&H! I don't know how many times I need to thank you to express how grateful I'm for having you as my friends. Thanks for inviting me, thanks for convincing me, thanks for the CDs and heavy bags on the way home LOL. I appreciate every moment I spent with you!
Everybody I met in New Orleans.
And what is next? White party (Los Angeles) with Armin or Creamfields (Poland) with Gabriel and Dresden. I still have time to think.

agreed about the unconditional love...they're so energetic and interactive with the crowd.
let me know about creamfields, as i'm planning to go. :D
AND, i'm pretty sure we were next to each other most of the night and that your dark haired, bubbly, bouncy friend and i fought for floorspace in front of the decks more than a few times! LOL
i was with the crew of crazy south americans who showed up around 1AM. my friend's the one lifted in the air -- it was his birthday :)
thanks for the memories -- i haven't transferred my "real" pics from the gig, but here are a couple off my mobile for now:
i was seeing double vision all night! LOL
NO idea what's on dave's nose...
cheers! |

Yes, i remember your party, in the end of the set you handed a camera to Josh and made him take at least 10 pix of you and your party. :D
I'll keep you posted about my plans for July.
