DANDY JACK &
THE JUNCTION SM
The explosive live/dj combo composed by Dandy Jack’s sofisticated rhythmes &
sounds and Sonja Moonear’s fine records selection.
SONJA MOONEAR, creative and talented dj from the Swiss mountains, and DANDY
JACK , live musician well-known through his productions as well as his
amazing live performances, are the two ingredients of the duo JUNCTION SM.
Their 1st performance happened by chance with the help of Weetamix promoter
Dimitri. Suffering a last minute cancellation by US legend Robert Hood, he
let Sonja & Dandy take the control of the whole night. A one hour blackout
paralized half of the country on that night. And when the electricity came
back, the club, still packed, was ready to explose. So did both musicians
playing together till the early morning. JUNCTION SM was born..
The JUNCTION SM performance is all about a perfect mixture of dandy jack’s
live improvisation and sonja moonear’s record selection. Jack’s sets are
routed through 2 channels of sonja’s dj mixer in order to let her control
the whole given sound. She can use his sounds as an additional source to her
records, but also filter, cut or edit it with several effects. She pitches
her records to Dandy’s live set.
Sometimes Sonja mixes entire records over his sets, or sometimes she only
adds a hihat, a bassdrum or a simple melody. It can also happen that Dandy
Jack improvises solos or additional rhythm patterns on top of Sonja’s mixes
that increase breaks efficiency. The magical thing is that everything is
directely connected to the crowd. Rises and slopes are modulated according
to the audience’s
motivation. Depending on the development of the night, Dandy Jack can reload
new sets while Sonja is taking over the dancefloor, or she slows down her
input and let Jack performing solo. The link between both of them and the
public is the oxygen of their performance. Out of this chemistry comes a
wonderful tension that drives the night till the early hours. Both actors’
inputs are generating such a
generous and various sound flow that it gives the impression of a perpetual
live production. You will never recognize any pieces, or have any repetition
between the sets. The frontier between live sets and records just vanishes.
The audience gets lost in trying to know who does what and it’s more fun for
everybody.
