Nintendo Wii Price Point?

From Engadget:

Almost lost among the hubbub of Sony's keynote extravagance was a little forum-derived rumor about Nintendo's Wii. It claims to be based on an issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly with Zelda on the cover and a whole lot of Nintendo gems inside, including a purported $250 launch price. The tipster hasn't shown any scans of the magazine's actual content, but he did manage to get a picture of the magazine's cover up on the forum after work, so our legit-ness meter is looking pretty good. Along with the console price, and screenshots of Monkey Ball, Tony Hawk, Rayman and Red Steel, he mentions the Virtual Console gaming, Wii-remote tech, and some vaguely defined "ALWAYS online" functionality (the console is always hooked to the Internets, even when off). There's also a supposed built-in speaker in the controller (a DS-like mic seems more likely to us, but that's what he says). As we said, the rumor looks fairly solid, though we don't have long to find out, since Nintendo's keynote is kicking off early tomorrow. And being that we really don't have anything better to do, we'll be sure to liveblog it to pieces.

Yay? Nay?

We'll find out soon. :)
CONNERMAN2000
im willing to believe that. nintendo was saying all along that its console would be much more affordable. thats good news to say the least.
Push2005
250 is acceptable I guess...

But how much will the remotes and the games cost independently ?
Moongoose
I think Miyamoto (or was it Iwata? i really dont remember) mentioned in some interview that 1st party games woudnt cost more than 50$ a piece. #rd party games who knows. Im hoping no more than 60$ and im also hoping that nintendo doesnt pull the same stunt as Microsoft and Sony and just replaces the $ sign with the € singn when releasing stuff in Erope.

The one that im interested in the most is how much games for the virtual machine would cost. The rumor is that it will be about 2$ for NES titles, 5$ for SNES titles and 10$ for N64 titles (except for rareware games becouse rare is in microsofts bag these days  that means no goldeneye 007)

Damn, that sux...

Rare has produced so many damn good titles: Goldeneye; Perfect Dark; Donkey Kong; ...

WHY DID THEY RUN OVER ? :sadgreen:
I was actually so hoping for a decent FPS on the gamecube and waiting for a perfect dark 2 or something; and then I heard rare has quit producing for Nintendo :(

(btw; Perfect Dark Zero on Xbox360 isnt thát good)
Zombie0915

and battletoads?

nooooooooooooo! I wanna see a new battletoads so friggin badly, they need to make a really dirty violent battletoads.
Push2005
Yeah; that sux

IMO Rareware was Nintendo's best developer. It's so ing unfair they ran over.

Btw; does anyone know when Wii will be released in Europe ? Coz I live in belgium :(
P4z!
Rare is actually developing Diddy Kong Racing DS for the Nintendo DS, so perhaps there is a chance for us to see more of their franchises on Nintendo platforms :)

Didi Kong racing already existed on N64... So basically they're just reworking it, no ? Or maybe rare isnt involved at all anymore... :(

Rare stated this on their homepage:

quote:
E3 '06 is also the debut stage for our latest collaboration with Nintendo: we've possibly hinted at it in the past, but then again we've also hinted at a lot of other things, because we're like that. Yes, Diddy Kong Racing is our first official DS project, and Nintendo are busily promoting it as part of their next wave of big DS offerings for late 2006. Based on the N64 classic but improved and expanded in ways that only the DS allows, you can see the first shot and movie snippet over on NCL's website if you haven't already.

A few tantalising DKR DS info-bites to keep you going: eight-player single-card and multi-card WiFi play, touch-screen and microphone compatibility, some familiar faces in newly playable form, remodelled and retextured tracks, customisable vehicles, new modes, weapons and challenges, a little something called TT's Wish Races where you can create your very own tracks... and it doesn't end there.

onlineplay confirmed.
