GW:Factions

weymouth
I put a ton of time into the original guild wars(130 hours) and enjoyed it greatly but really only liked the RP game. Was wondering if anyone could tell me if the new campaign's story is better than the first and if it is challenging. I loved the really challenging missions and hope that factions has that.

Yes, yes and yes. :D

Been playing this since an hour after the servers came on.

Factions is VERY hard. Personally I enjoy this story much more than the one in prophecies (which was very cliche and generic). This game is definately better than the first one (but the cutscenes are just as horrible! ;) ).

So far it's a load of fun. The world is so much better too. In prophecies it always felt so empty, just loads of valleys and rolling hills with a couple of trees thrown here and there. In factions, you're fighting in the middle of a HUGE metropolis with asian-themed architecture. Everything looks so amazing (but it's very hard on the computer).

The missions are also more innovative. For instance, you'll have missions where instead of just playing with 7 other people, there will be two teams of 8 (the teams are paired randomly much like in PvP), both teams start at different point in the map and they have their own objectives, and at some point during the mission they'll meet somewhere and then fight side by side (so you have a huge army of 20-30 with the NPCs).

Haven't really gotten a chance to play the ritualist much. The assassin plays alot like a warrior (but alot more fun). Instead of working with adrenaline, the attacks work in combos, so you have a lead attack, followed by off-hand attack, followed by repeat attack or dual attack. The only problem is, everyone is playing the new classes, so you can spend ages trying to find people to play with, because no one wants you unless you're a healer. (so in that sense you'd have a much easier time playing with people as a ritualist/monk).

There's also a major difference with Prophecies when it comes to the PvE campaign. In prophecies, you reach level 20 and ascend at maybe 2/3rds of the way through the game. Then your character continues to devellop by gaining new skills and new items. In Factions, you start off in a place called Shin Jae island, which is like the Factions equivalent of pre-searing Ascalon, where you'll train your character. By the time you reach the third or fourth mission, everybody's level 20 and has high level armor, and then the game really begins. By the time you're level 15 or so, you'll be given the opportunity to book a ship to lion's arch, and from there you can play in Tyria with your Factions character (but this only works if you have the original game).
