I don't think they were really focusing on a Japanese name for the console, it probably just occurred that the name could also mean something in Japanese.
I hope they change it though, wonder what happened to that promise about revealing the final name at E3.. |

You know... it'll grow on you. Haha.
I used to call the 360, 'xenon' even after the official name was released. Over time, I warmed up to 360 and just call it that now.
The 'we' is PRETTY bad but you can always call it the Revolution, if anything. ;) |

GI: Whose idea was Wii?
Atwood: It was actually several people internally. But beyond that, we aren’t disclosing specifics on how the name came about. But it was several people at NOA and NCL.
@ threadstarter: so it wasn't necessary the Japanese that came up with the name.
