I used to play Phantasy Star on the SEGA Genesis. It was the RPG of its time but it could be a real pain in the ass. I think the last one I played followed 3 generations through 7 different interconnected planets. Since there were 3 generations, there were something like 8 possible endings. It was sweet. I have no idea what they've done with the franchise now. Final Fantasy took over as the RPG of choice for me back in 1998 and I never looked back.

i dont like monthly fees. the very first PSO had it right by making everything free after purchase...then V.2 was released and a monthly charge policy was added. it was mostly because the first PSO had very little technical support...which caused hackers to pretty much overrun all the servers. To prevent this..they added monthly fees and increased security..

i just hope sega pulls a guild wars and makes it free. ill be pickin it up if thats the case.

the problem with the very first PSO on Dreamcast was that your characters were saved on the VMUs (memory cards). this allowed duping of rare items. when PSO began charging monthly fees, everything got saved server side.

the BIGGEST ANNOYANCE i had with PSO, which ultimately made me quit, was the fact that when you died, someone else could 'PICK UP' your weapon. i literally stopped playing when someone quietly picked up my rare staff and never gave it back.
