There goes the NYC Party scene...

Just found this crap out... Wow, so much for returning to NYC for a party.. :)

April 1, 2006 -- Seven trendy nightclubs were raided last night following a nine-month undercover drug probe, police said yesterday.

Police hit the clubs at 10 p.m., just as they were starting their Friday night parties.

Five Chelsea clubs were completely shut down:

* Club Deep, where undercover cops allegedly purchased marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy.

* View, where undercovers said they bought cocaine and ecstasy.

* Splash, where undercovers allegedly bought $2,700 worth of cocaine.

* Spirit, where cops said they witnessed assaults, including a stabbing; alcohol being served to minors, as well as drug use and sales.

* Avalon, where cops reported buying ecstasy.

One dazed and confused clubber at Avalon said musician Teddy Compton was in the middle of his opening act.

"Half way through the set, the volume just plummeted," said the woman, who asked that her name not be printed. "The NYPD just swarmed in. It was a hell of a lot of cops. The club was just shut down, nobody would tell us why."

Clubs Speed, on West 39th Street, and Steel Gym, on East 23rd Street, were issued "restraining orders," meaning they can stay open if they stop illegal activity.

At Speed, cops allegedly were offered sex for money, and spotted drug use.

In Steel Gym, undercovers reported buying the drug crystal meth.

"We visited most of these clubs in the past," said a police source. "It's not the first time we've seen this kind of activity."

Police target popular night clubs
Five shut down in overnight raids
WABC By Jeff Pegues

(Chelsea-WABC, April 1, 2006) - The NYPD is cracking down on illegal drug dealing in night clubs. Five clubs were shutdown in Manhattan overnight on Friday, but at least one is already back open for business.
Eyewitness News reporter Jeff Pegues is in Chelsea with more.

The fact that one of the clubs is already open for business raises questions about the effectiveness of the law that shut the clubs down in the first place. Police say they targeted seven clubs Friday night. It was the culmination of a nine-month undercover narcotics investigation.

On Eighth Avenue, police closed down View, but it still drew a crowd Saturday afternoon as passers-by took a good look at what the establishment is accused of.

Hal Klein, Neighborhood Resident: I'm not surprised. I'm very surprised it took place here at the View.

On three separate occasions under cover cops say they purchased cocaine and ecstasy here. It is one of five clubs shut down for alleged illegal activity under the city's nuisance abatement law.

Beginning at 10:00 p.m. Friday night, the NYPD's Narcotic Division, Quality Assurance Unit and the Manhattan South Vice Squad slapped the five closure orders on View, Club Deep, Avalon, Splash and spirit.

Club Speed and Steel Gym have been issued restraining orders. All the clubs are accused of some level of drug violations, including purchases of marijuana, heroin, cocaine, crystal meth and ecstasy. In one of the clubs, cops say they were offered sexual acts for money.

The clubs have been targeted under the city's nuisance abatement law. Some wonder if the law has teeth.

Late today we visited Splash which had been temporarily shut down. It was preparing to open for business Saturday night. One of the managers told Eyewitness News, "We wouldn't open up if we couldn't open up legally."

A man who identified himself as the manager of Splash said he would not elaborate on how they're able to open and some of the other clubs that were shut down are not. Police say that on three different occasions at Splash, undercover cops were able to purchase $2,700 worth of cocaine.
scamsel
The Scamsel thinks this is ing lame and they should be arresting real criminals. Waste of tax dollars, spend it on drug treatment not the "busting" of non violent drug offenders, no reasonable person can legitimately argue for the war on drugs.

Nine months of investigation to close down a couple clubs for one night? Genious.

In any event, looks like crobar is still on tap, guess they pay more taxes than these other clubs, haha.
Caution_BiPolar
This is why I wish more people would catch on to the dropping the in your system BEFORE you hit the club. I'm totally against taking your in with you.
