Porterhouse @ Suite Review Thread (pg. 2)
tribalsoundz
hey guys, adam here, the promoter of the porterhouse party.

sorry you didn't enjoy yourselves at our party. we thought it was great and had over 1000 people for a wednesday. i am baised, but everyone we spoke with had a blast. we try our best to make these porterhouse parties special and i am sorry you didn't enjoy yourself.

i thought steve played great and he was having a blast.. i agree with you; eli and phil and fluff did great.

as for the error with luke and desyn, that sucks, and i can assure you we had nothing to do with that as it was the venue's mistake and it was only put on their website 2 days before our event and our ads never advertised them playing.

hope you all had a great miami trip. i miss it already.

All the best,
Adam

Time to point fingers and deflect responsibility, eh?

Sounds like "damage control" to me...

Porter could play and I think he wouldn't care, lol. He'll still get paid in the end.

Have you ever seen him spin? I know Steve personally and this is not the case. He is a great guy and his concern is not to get paid in the end. He is about making sure everyone has a good time at the party. If he didn't play a great set in your eyes then fine. I wasn't at the party myself as my plane got there late but I heard he played pretty well from reliable sources. Steve is the last person to go the sellout route.

For the record, I never accused him of being a sellout.

I will say though, that his set was awful. I've been a HUGE Porter fan for quite a while now, and have heard what he is capable of behind the decks. Unfortunately, that didn't happen on Wednesday, and if his set on Wednesday in combination with his new compilation "Porterhouse" are, in fact, a clear indication of where Porter is headed as an "artist," that's fine. However, I personally think it's rubbish, and as a big fan I also find it exceptionally disappointing.

Edit: Also, I find it funny how almost everyone I met at the Suite party was from Boston and said that they made the trip to WMC specifically for Porters set.... His residency must be going well... :haha:

Yeah, but you know what? Those Boston kids pretty much made the place worth being at for a lot of the night. They were gettin' down and havin' a KILLER time, regardless of who was on, and that to me was definitely a rad sight!

Props to the Boston kids for stickin' by their man, I dig seeing such devoted fans like that out at shows! Definitely takes away from the "be there to be seen" vibe.

that's a very good point. i'm sure they def added to the vibe. i guess if i had gone to the conference, and one of my dc boys were playing, i'd be there in a heartbeat. :D

Yeah, if there was one saving grace to this night it's that it was BY FAR the least pretentious crowd I saw during the entire week. For the most part, it seemed like Suite was full of people who were in fact out for the music and not just to look good, so there's my silver lining to Steve's rough set ;)

Suite updated their site with information that said "Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, Mark Knight, & Cedric Gervais" would all be there... those names were also listed on the HUGE poster that was hanging inside the front window @ Suite... not to mention, when we asked several people on the staff when and what room these guys were going to be playing in, they answered our questions as if that line-up was for real, telling us they would be going on downstairs around 12:30 or 1am.

i tried not to get my hopes up a few days prior to this event just because i wasn't sure if it was true or not, but when the poster AND staff confirms that very evening that the line-up is "real" i believed i was actually going to see those guys that night... and i was certainly let down when we found out it was all fake. i think they just used those names to get more people there... pretty ty thing to do if you ask me.

I guess I was going by all the flyers I'd seen in NY leading to up the event. I had no expectations of Desyn, etc to be there..that does suck if they had printed flyer with misinformation on it...

We saw them at our Hotel, all over the street that Suite is on, and covering the club... :(

And promoters saying they had "nothing" to do with it is a joke... Clubs rarely, if ever, take care of their own promotion... tribalsoundz and whichever promotion he represents, IMO, lost every ounce of credibility they ever could have had with the way this party was set up.

$15 Guest List... Never happened.... Desyn, Fair, Knight, and Gervais... Never Happened.
