Need a new AGP video card, suggestions?

TeKnoHe@d2025
Well, the month that Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion releases is nearly upon us and my computer is due for a new video card to run this game at optimum awesomeness.

My computer currently is running a GeForce FX5600, and I've never been impressed with it since the day I've built this computer. It simple sucks at lighting and the framrate drops like hell anytime intense lighting is involved in an area.

I'm looking for a video card that supports AGP 4X/8X and is in the $250-400 USD range. Comments and suggestions are welcome, but I'm looking to get away from nVidia and give ATi a try this time around.

I've been doing some research and I'm pretty much settled on the ATi Radeon X800 AGP 4X/8X GPU. Preferably the Radeon X800 XL or XT, but I'm even considering the All-in-Wonder version.

Let me know what you think.

incase you decide to go the nvidia route, i have two suggestions. i just got the evga geforce 6800, it runs great. i upgraded from a 5700le and the difference makes you just go 'wow'. i get around 50 - 60fps in dod:s with full settings, 2x aa, 4x af and full hdr. its definatly worth the $200, i dont think i'll be upgrading from this card for at least a year and a half or so. if you want something more powerful, check out the evga geforce 7800gs. its basically an agp version of the 7800, looks great. it is easily the most powerful agp card available. the price is pretty good too, only $350.

i would change to pci-e....unless you can get an amazing deal on a agp card switch to pci-e.

as for agp card, x800 series from ati are great cards. i'm an nvidia guy and i have the 6800gt and its flawless. runs cool, fast and stable.
and the nvidia 7800gs is probably the last nvidia agp card that will be coming out. and by the benchmarks and specs its a real power horse.

Keep in mind that those new video cards, Wether they are AGP or PCI Express 16x, They require a connection to the power supply, So if your power supply is like over 500watts and has a connector for a video card, You would have to connect it in order for those video cards to work properly.

very true. but 400watts will do depending on what you have with your systems. i'm doing fine with my 500watt psu with 2 hard drives, dvd burner and cd burner, a sound card with front panel and 64bit cpu.

My mobo doesn't support PCI-E, it's an ASUS P4P800.
