Iowa Events Thread!!

So Iowa [well, not really all of Iowa....but Des Moines rather], is having what they're calling an "Urban Music & Arts Festival" called 515-Alive [515 being the area code for central Iowa].

Anyways, here's the flyer for it.

Ironically enough, when Iowa finally does something, I'll be long gone by then - and stationed in Shreveport. go figure. Not that i'm expecting this to be something +spectacular+ [it stops at 2am for pete's sake], but I suppose something is better than nothing....right?

I 'spose its neat to see this God-forsaken state finally doing something at least the slightest bit EDM related. I guess every city had to start somewhere. And this is a 4th annual festival, apparently.

Dare we make an "Iowa Events Thread"?

kidding, of course. :happy2:

I dunno what is really causing me to post this. heh. i guess it's to get other people's impressions of the level of this "festival" based on the flyer posted. Scale of 1-10....any thoughts? :conf:

Since I just moved to Des Moines, I'm pretty psyched about this! :D Thanks for posting about this!

While we're on the subject of Des Moines, are there any decent record stores here? :conf:

I know most will laugh at this, but with the growth and revitalizing of this city in the past few years, I can see the scene blowing up here pretty soon.

ohh man, when i was still in HS... so like 4-5 years ago, we drove down to Des Moines for a show, i forget who it was but it was a big name, maybe Christopher Lawrence... frankly I don't remember.

what i do remember is it was in a "club" no bigger than my appartment space and only about 200 people showed up. the crowd was pretty good since it was only people that wanted to be there and not some blundering fools coming in on a club-night - for example this happened when Benassi was brought it for the first time to Chicago at Eclipse I believe and you had 10-20 n*gg*rs (i'm not overly racist but that's the best way i could describe these oversized sports jersey and patched-up, dicolored jean wearing fools) chanting "Hip-hop, hip-hop!" after about 45 mins of his set. anyhow Iowa just like any other state will continue it's growth, but I don't expect much out of it.
