It's hardly a secret.
Vodafone offers IMEI (serial number) blocking any time someone calls in to report their phone missing. We can even block a handset without you having to give us the 15-digit number - it's recorded on the systems every time you make a phone call.

every time I send a txt it asks me for my number (callback number)

If I send a txt and dont give a callback number can they still reply?

What kind of phone is it?

It shouldn't be like that i don't think.

You could always just try texting a friend or mum or brother or just another phone around the house and see how well it works.

Smileys and everything. Whatever.

2. How fast can you text 2 sentences?

How long are the sentences?
With predictive text, between 30 seconds and a minute, depending.

3. If somebody has their mobile switched off, will you still be able to send them messages?

Yes. Once you send a message, the network stores it and will try to deliver it for up to 72 hours. Your recipient will usually get the message within a few minutes of them turning their phone back on.

As for the phone asking for a number when you send a txt... well.
What brand of phone is it?
Is it actually asking for a "callback number"? or does it want a "service centre" or "message centre" number?

Chances are, it wants the message centre number, which is like the address of the network's computer which sends the messages out. You can get this number from your phone company, if it's not already stored in the phone. The message won't send or get through to the other person if you don't have this number correct.

I've never actually come across a phone that asks you to type in your own number to send a message. Phones are supposed to be smart enough to work this out by themselves... I'd need to know *exactly* what it does when you send a message to be able to tell you what it wants.
