Even though this is the trance addict board I felt compelled to post a review of the night.
Got to Belo at around 9:30pm. Was expecting a long line to hype the place up but was able to walk right in. Took a quick tour and marveled at how different the place looked since it was formally E Street Alley. For those of you who never got to go to E St. it used to be a really dark cave of a place with lots of gangsters and cracked out people because it was one of the few of not the only place that stayed open till 4:00am in the gaslamp. The place was really trendy and had lots of cool furniture and paintings the decor was modern/shag theme which I really dig. The place had a ton of bars so I never had to wait for a drink. The only drag about the layout was the locations of the VIP areas. They had one placed at the front entrance walkway. As the place got busier and that particular VIP started to fill up it clogged the walk way and made it really hard to navigate to the other room. Also, Belo has a number of cool flat screen panel televisions around the club but who ever was running the media felt compelled to show the movie "Barbarella" continuously which I thought was a waste. They could have played tons of cool movies like "Blade Runner" IMO.
I thought that Dj AM would go on extremely late but he actually went on at 10:30pm and was still playing when I left at 1:00am. I really wanted to check him out because of all the celebrity hype that surrounded him. When he went on the room was packed for most of the night and the crowd in San Diego was loving him. Highlight of the night was lots of drink chicks dancing with each other. Dj AM was actually not that bad. Lets just say that he is good at what he does. The music was interesting and songs that you would never dream of hearing together were mixed up such as the Beatles and Nine Inch Nails. From what I noticed last night a couple reasons why people love Dj Am is that he brought a fun, high energy vibe and he took you on a crazy journey of songs and mixes and never new who or what he would play next....no songs were off limits. It is not really my cup of tea but I can appreciate different styles of music.
In the end I am extremely excited about Belo and the future it hold for San Diego and more possible venues for House, techo, and trance misic. I have been having to go to stupid On Broadway for the longest time but really looking forward to more acts at Belo and 4th and B. |

nice review!...i have to agree with the decor, i was given a tour before it was opened, with the lights on and it looked very impressive...one question though, how much was the regular admission that night?

| I am going to have to agree on this one. I'm not really into mash ups but DJ A.M earned my respect last night for sure. This dude would literally be in and out of a song within seconds and you would never know it. At one point he had a sample from a song going overtop of two completely different songs...all the while scratching, juggling and mixing into a different song. I was interested ins eeing what all the hype was about as well but this dude is for sure good at what he does. |

Thanks for the great review. Always helps to hear things from a TA point of view.
As far as admission presently it is $30 (see Wantickets) but as Austin has posted if you get on the headliners list it's $15.
Since Polka Dot & Realize Tribe are promoting Saturdays they usually have a list of some kind available although that I am not sure of.
I wonder because of the prior recent history/clientel of E-Street that setting the cover high would discourage the "old" crowd from attending?
I would rather pay a bit more to hang in comfortable surroundings with great sound and talent I want to see perform.
Looking forward to seeing the club myself.

I bought my tickets through Wantickets about a week from the show and paid 30.00. However, was interested to see if the tickets prices would jump up at all and they did twice. A couple days later it went up to 35.00 and then a couple after that to 40.00. Not sure what they ended up charging at the door.
I did hear that around 11:30-11:45pm they stopped letting people inside the club.
Oh yeah, the drink prices was comparable to On Broadway. 8 dollars for a rum and coke and 11 dollars for a red bull vodka (Ouch) |
