Return To New York 1 year in Toronto

Its been an exciting year for dance music in Toronto in 2005, and this is in no small part due to the team behind A.D/D and the Return To New York parties.

Since R2NY's touchdown in February 2005, there have been a steady stream of super hot and innovative events featuring artists like DJs Are Not Rockstars, Peter Hook (New Order), The Hacker, Tommie Sunshine, T.Raumschmiere, LCD Soundsystem, The Juan MacLean, Junior Sanchez, DJ:Unknown, Alexander Technique, Jordan Dare, and of course the creator of the whole world wide movement, Arthur Baker.

Few trendsetting nights are introduced that spawn a true movement and begin an immediate buzz like this.

Combining the talents of danceable bands and rock-able DJs, R2NY continues to evolve and break the rules bringing the living legends together with the modern talents of today, and the rising stars of tomorrow under the same roof unified by true passion for music and night life.

This next event taking place at R2NY's original stomping ground in Toronto, The Mod Club Theatre, will be very special as it marks the 1 year anniversary of this incredible night in Toronto. Marking the occasion will be the electrifying talents of Tommie Sunshine and JD Samson of Le Tigre.

Hailing from Brooklyn NY, Tommie is undeniably one of the most innovative and inspirational Producer/DJs today. Through his timeless work with Felix Da Housecat, James Murphy, Arthur Baker, Mylo and DJ Hell, this artist continues to reinvent himself and stay ahead of the curve. His latest remix efforts include work for The Faint, Fall Out Boy, and The Sounds. ElectroDiscoPunk & Lo-Fi Dance Pogo is what you can expect from the decks and a full-blown, unpredictable party is what you can expect through the speakers and on the dance floor.

JD Samson, one third member of the ultra electro-punk band Le Tigre makes the trip over from NYC bringing the kind of cool you can only get from being in Le Tigre! Besides writing, recording and performing insanely catchy tunes like Le Tigre's 'Decapitation', JD is also a co-founder of the conceptual dance group "Dykes Can Dance, " which she performs unannounced, choreographed dance routines around New York in an attempt to break the stereotype of lesbian's as bad dancers. In 2003, she released 'JD's Lesbian Calendar, a collaboration with photographer Cass Bird, which will be followed up in 2006 with 'JD's Lesbian Utopia', a calendar documenting Samson's travels around the USA in an RV.

Joining Tommie and JD in the main room is fenom femme DJ Barbi and A.D/D DJs, in the lounge you'll be treated to the euro crunk, southern rock, southern rap and Baltimore club sounds of The Skeletwinz, making their much anticipated debut at R2NY.

2006 promises to be the biggest and baddest year yet as R2NY stretches out its wings into new areas of the world including Montreal, Shanghai, Tokyo and the club mecca of the world Ibiza. There are plenty more major announcements that will be made as the year unfolds as A.D/D and Return To New York take aim for the stars, quite literally.

There are always many imitators, though there is only one true originator, and this is Arthur Baker's Return To New York.
