| the thing that really pisses me off is with cable and adsl here in aust...like it cost between 60 to 200 buck per month in aust while in the usa it's pretty much costing next to nothing, using 56k is just a bitch |

hmm, ya here in sydney i have no complaints
much better speed than dialup & rarely network problems
but for canberra & other cities i expect, it's totally lame...telstra adsl is a rip off, and has a limited availablility & they haven't even heard of cable there :(:(:(

One of the problems with Australia is not the carriers, its the fact its a big country and filled with so few people that makes it hard to get anything out to people.
Not that the government seems to be pushing for it outside the big cities which is sad because it makes communities that little more isolated.
Places like the US and Canada, while they may have about the same land mass have also got many, many more people so they need the infrastructure to support them anyway. |

Ziggy's agreed to step down, but they wont name a replacement till mid-year. Telstra keep my company paying me, but that doesnt change the fact they suck. :whip: I dont use them for my net.
Yes, the US is way ahead of us in regards to cable :( |

| the US isnt that much ahead, lots of europe is much more ahead than they are. Cable internet here is pretty fast considering most of the websites/downloading comes from the US, ive seen over 900Kbytes/Sec from local servers before. The only complaint i have is that our services are overpriced, but thats to be expected with the limited competition and as someone else mentioned the spread of population. |

that 900kbps is because you're downloading from something inside the telstra cable network. |

We're improving guys... ASDL+2 should be in full scale by next year...
There are already 12Mb and 8Mb plans from iiNet and Internode. Telstra is expected to launch it by the end of the year :)
But I hear Japan is just starting to get residential fibre optics? :eyes: |
