Hardly cynical. Gone are the Disco-tech and Wet days of GC. This is just a chart topping exercise at getting the brand recognised after a shakey start last year. Keep in mind that its competing with GK and Slinky for trashy compilation glory.
You and I both know we probably have 99.9% of all those tracks in amongst our collections. This just an exercise of convienence whereby they're all planted in one nicely looking box.
IMO Renaissance and GU have been and continue to churn out quality laden CDs with staying power.
