A VST question. CODE N00B!

I mainly use/work with Reason 3.0 and actuall hardware for whatever it is i do. Lately, i've been trying to get more into software outside of reason. I used my school studio for a long time but we are remodelling till the spring semester starts so I'm left limited mainly to Reason and other sequencing programs I have. I was wondering what's a good program to plug VSTi into? Maybe i don't get the concept but i was under impression that I do. Over the years i even acquired a couple of bass and drum machine ones but don't know with which program to actually open and use them.

Gracias, and yes i know major n00b question :p

i don't exectly follow that :p

Rewire comes with reason right? So i can just use that to open them ?

reason does not support vsti support, therefore you cant open up your vsti's in it. but reason can act as a rewire host in sequencing programs such as cubase. but the great thing is that you can use reason, Hardware and also you vsti's in cubase.

please tell if you cant understand! ;)

I have cubase already would you recommend just using that or getting a new one?

If you can't get Cubase, then Rewire with Ableton Live 5 or Sonar 4 (not as difficult as Cubase), works great.

umm, yeah but reason 3.0 aint that hard to rewire with cubase. although i must admit i have trouble using cubase sometimes (dont use it that much).

VSTi is a plugin technology developed by steinberg which allows you
insert and play these instruments in any VSTi compatible software application.

Reason is not VSTi compatible so you should use Cubase or maybe FruityLoops in order to use these VSTi's.

Rewire technology allows 2 or more rewire compatible applications to communicate with each other and share the audio/midi streams. However, only one application can be used as the Host or main controller.

It is not possible to explain the theory or how to use all this new technology in a forum, so I would start by googling for VSTi and Rewire information.

can reason be used as the host controller eventhough you use VSTi's from Cubase?
