First of all we’d like to extend a warm thankyou to all of you who continue to support PF through 2005 and beyond. Xmas night was once again most probably the highlight of our year with great sets by the PF residents, a massive live set from Jaytech and some audio visual treats from Hedfuks to see the year out. Fresh from rocking the boat at Sunshine People again on NYD this year we figured we’d roll with it and kick of our plans for 2006 pretty much immediately. And what plans we have in store...
After a short run of fantastic parties at Altitude, we’re moving on to a new home once again. With a new programming direction for the club starting this month we wish Christian, James & the rest of the crew at Altitude all the best for the future–however we’re pretty sure that it won’t be the last you hear of a number of the PF DJ’s at Altitude this year just yet.... (stay tuned for some more info in the coming week).
To say that we’re pretty excited about our new home would be just a small understatement to say the least. In terms of CBD spaces, there is nothing more interesting or unique than the Royal Melbourne Hotel (formerly the Palladin). What was once the City West Police Station an Jailhouse dating back to the 1880’s, it now exists as entertainment venue and we’ll be moving Private Function in once every 4-6 weeks starting this month. We’re therefore pleased to announce that on Friday January 27th, within the glass roofed atrium of the Royal Melbourne Hotel for the first time, Private Function will be presenting our inaugural guest for 2005 – Omid16b.
Most progressive fans will have a classic Omid16b track in their top ten–we can almost guarantee that. Tracks such as Escape (Driving To Heaven), The Game, or his classic remixes of Morel’s True (The ****** is You) or Electric Tease’s Your Lovin’ will be more than familiar to fans of progressive sounds and they’ve all been a big part of the PF soundtrack over the past 4 years. Which makes it even more fitting that Omid16b will be gracing the PF console this month to provide his own soundtrack this time. Here’s a few more cuts from his bio for good measure...
Omid16B lives for music. A DJ, producer and label owner of Alola, Disclosure and Sexonwax Records, he’s spreading his passion worldwide - from the UK to the USA, from Europe to Asia and Australia. Fans range from Sasha to Tenaglia, François K to Morales and from Digweed to Danny Howells. Equally important to Omid are his fans on the dance floor. And he turns them on with superb sets that twist and turn from sexy tribal house through to dark, emotive techno - each set morphing to bring out the best in the crowd.
Of Persian roots, Omid’s family immigrated to London when he was just one-year-old. His artistic flair and musical ear developed at an early age - as did his ambition. Influenced by Hendrix, The Cure, Depeche Mode and The Mission, he started playing the guitar at 14, learned how to play drums and bass guitar at 15 and formed his own band when he was 17. Already Omid’s tastes were becoming “more dance than rock, more loops than words, less songs more toons”.
Omid laid the foundations for his own career path and set up Alola Records in 1994. Under his O.R.N moniker, his stunning ‘Snow’ track was picked up by BMG Deconstruction and Omid’s production talents were snapped up by Eye Q, signing his debut album ‘Sounds From Another Room’ (1988). This album was met with critical acclaim and spawned the hit single ‘Water Ride’. Another album followed as $16 Million Dollar Man on Under The Counter before ‘How To Live 100 Years’ in 2002 on the respected Hooj Choons label and not to forget a mix compilation for his own label Alola ‘Everything all of them every year’ (2002).
The singles came thick and fast - but quality has always been the name of the game. To date, Omid has remixed great artists from The Cure, Gus Gus, John Creamer and Danny Howells to Halo Varga, Morel, François Kervorkian and Pete Moss. But once again it’s Omid’s skills that come to the force. Having produced and remixed for many labels, he is also the front man of his band ‘The Idiots’ who have released several singles on Sexonwax and have remixed for other labels as Renaissance and artists such as Danny Howells.
With a Sexonwax mix CD in the pipeline with S.O.S partners Desyn Masiello and DJ Demi, along with his third artist album due for release this year also, it’s shaping up to be another massive year for Omid.
PF residents will be in full effect as usual. With support for Omid from Aaron Roach, Dean Millson, Steve May & Big Kev (fresh from completely destroying the Black Pearl at Sunshine People on NYD).
Entry this time around is $20 or $15 on the guestlist. As usual, you can head to http://www.privatefunction.tranzfusion.net to register for the guestlist or if you have a large list email it through to us at privatefunction@tranzfusion.net and we'll get it sorted for you!
We’re looking forward to bringing in 2006 with Omid and we’re hoping you’ll be able to join us in the atrium at the RMH also.
See you on the dancefloor!

Hideaway
Been waiting to use that pic for a while, and what better month than balmy January in Melburn town...
As for RMH, it's down the Spencer Street end Al. Between Spencer and King actually. It's a Gothic Revival building, all blue stone etc. Very cool imo :) |
