It's always been my advice to anyone starting out to always record your mix sessions and listen to them. You not only pick up where you are making mistakes but also when mixes come together, volume control, how tracks fit together etc.

Just keep recording and documenting your progress.

One last bit, when live in a mix, adjust without touching the platter; go all pitchslide!
