Yeah, like that time Godskitchen brought in Judge Jules, that was great....
HAHAHAHA
Seriously, I've seen people posting this before. Purefuture brings in just about the same acts that GK was bringing in with a few minor variations: Beyer, G&D, AvB, PvD, Howells, etc. and that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more. So uh, what is exactly the problem?
Can't speak for Crobar and their promoters though - been there only twice this year: - once for Sander K and the other time I think I got lost and walked in by accident. |

i dunno why people keep complaining... Pure brought in a LOT of great talent last year. i don't go out as often as i like because i'm not a Chicago local, but when we have to start picking and choosing events because there's too many good DJs coming to Chicago all in one month, that's a pretty good sign that they're booking acts that people want to see. i'd say the biggest noticable difference is that Pure books way more local DJs to open for the big-name guys (which can be a great thing or a bad thing).
also, it's winter. i believe a lot of DJs take vacations and take breaks from gigs in January. last year there was no one spectacular booked in January (with the exception of Ferry on New Years Day)... at least this year we've got a few amazing DJs who are definitely worth checking out.
i'm curious, zigot... what genre of dance music do you listen to? what DJs should Pure book that they haven't already? |

??? Judge Jules, Ha!
Pure books more talent than any other promoter/club in the country (and more than GK/Spundae did when they were here). On any given Friday AND Saturday we have tons of big name, small name, diverse, talented DJs up in here. Fall 2005 was absolutely ridiculous as far as the amount and diversity of DJs in here. Its almost TOO much as people are "trained" to only go out to see the really big names. I've heard San Fran is the opposite with people supporting locals more than the big guys.
If anything, the majority of clubbers and cheesy-ass DJs in Chicago are whats lame but that is another discussion... |

It's been a while but from what I remember is that Spundae was expanding into multiple markets in US and joined up with GK not only to leverage more big names into US but also to distribute them better amongst their U.S. markets. It didn't quite work out and Spundae chose not to renew the contract.
I dont think Spundae operates outside of L.A./S.F. area anymore though and I don't think that GK operates within U.S. either (perhaps maybe just some markets in the northeast.)
Curley and Prasad have done a good job of bringing major talent into the city as well as showcasing local talent as opening acts for headliners as well. The best part about Pure promoting is that they split up fridays and saturdays between Vision and Sound-bar so you no longer make that choice about who you want to see if they are on the same night |

Agreed. When kids from 5 hours away are fighting to decide what they can afford to get down to Chicago to see, and what they're going to have to miss, that's a great sign...

While that may be true, I'll say this, you guys (You, Mili, James, and Seneca in particular) seem to have worked out a pretty good situation, and you've definitely set the bar higher for a lot of the locals. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of cheesy Chicago DJ's that still get booked, you 4 obviously aren't playing everywhere all the time, I think it's very obvious how hard you guys work to gain the support of the clubbers in Chicago, and soon hopefully you'll all see the emergence of more and more support for the locals...
As far as the original poster goes, I'll say this much; I've had my own opinions on the Pure/GK/Spundae debate... There are definitely more than a few times I think Pure has dropped the ball on one event or the other (NYE comes to mind), but at the same time, you can find something to bitch about with almost any promotion/promoter out there.
I don't think Chicago is hurting right now, Pure made Myra and I struggle over who it was we were going to be able to make it down to Chicago to see, and January (A traditionally slow month in clubland) has already shaped up damn well (Max G and Donald Glaude? z0mg! :eyes: ), so I guess the way I see it, unless you have some very specific issue with Pure that you'd like to address, I'd stay away from making "Why does Pure suck so much?" posts without anything to back them up... |
